/India PRwire/ - Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche from Namdroling Monastery will be confering an empowerment of Vajrasattva, followed by teachings based on the famed Tibetan Buddhist text called "Bardo Thodrol" (The Tibetan Book of the Dead) during October 3rd to 5th at Bangalore. DHARMA SUBHASHITA (Thubten Lekshey Ling) Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Meditation and Study Center (www.dharmasubhashita.org) is organizing this program.

There will be an introductory talk on the evening of October 3rd where the Tibetan Buddhist approach to life and death will be discussed. This will be followed by core teachings from the Bardo Thodrol on Oct 4th and 5th.

The Bardo is a Tibetan word that refers to intermediate states of experience. There are many transitory phases that we go through while living and dying. Every gap, every transition is an opportunity for transformation, if at all we know how to consciously make use of them. By knowing how to live consciously with inner peace and compassion for self and others, we can begin to understand the Bardo states. There are Bardo states of dreaming and meditation. We also go through Bardo states during death. We could be of help to others during the process of their death if we know what they undergo. At our own inevitable departure from this life, there is an opportunity to encounter our own true nature (the Buddha-nature, the Clear Light) and to attain the ultimate enlightenment. Thus we learn to face both life and death with courage and inner peace. The talk on the 3rd of October will discuss and how we could face both life and death with clear awareness and thus remain vigilent to make use of the opportunities.

The Bardo Thodrol (usually known in English as The Tibetan Book of the Dead) can be understood at two levels - first, as an advanced practice for trained meditators, and second, as a support for beings experiencing the Bardo without specific meditative training, experience or empowerment. The Bardo Thodrol is a text based on oral teachings by Guru Padmasambhava and recorded in written form around 760 AD.Bardo Thodrol literally means "The Great Liberation through Hearing in the Intermediate State".This text describes, and is intended to guide one through, the experiences during the interval between death and the next rebirth. The Bardo state is recognized as an opportunity for change; a starting point of transformation. It is understood as a gap between familiar boundaries through which beings can glimpse the absolute true nature of reality. By fully recognizing this ultimate nature, the deceased is capable of breaking the afflictive cycle of rebirth (Samsara) and achieving final liberation - the enlightenment for the sake of all sentient Beings. We usually tend to avoid thinking about or dealing with the fact of death. The refusal to acknowledge the eventuality of death and impermanence is a fundamental cause for the confusion and ignorance that prevents spiritual progress. Spiritual growth is achieved not by avoiding ‘unpleasant’ facts, but by facing and accepting them during the natural eventuality - with calmness, wisdom and compassion. The teachings on October 4th and 5th willilluminate on thedetails from the Bardo Thodrol. Bardo Thodrol teachings has an empowerment of Vajrasatva or alternatively an empowerment of Shitro 100-deities, as a prerequisite. This is becuase, the teachings on the Bardo comes from the Dzogchen cycle of teachings and an empowerment is essential to relate correctly with those teachings. On this context, the teaching on October 4th will begin with an empowerment of Vajrasatva.

Vajrasattva (dorje-sempa) practice and realization is one of the foundational steps in the path of 'the Great Perfection Teachings' known as Dzogchen (Mahāsandhi-yoga) and is the basis of Guhyagarbha (gsang ba'i snying po) Tantra also known as the Vajrasatva Māyājāla Tantra. Vajrasattva is Buddha of primordial purity and is the condensed essence of the 100 peaceful and wrathful appearances that arise in the Bardo. Vajrasattva practice is an essential element in the daily practice set of a Vajrayāna practitioner as it helps in purifying all sorts of negativities and bad karma. The Vajrasattva empowerment would be conferred based on the cycle of terma (treasure) teachings known as Namcho - the Buddha in the Palm of the Hand. This is also one of the foundational practices in the Namcho Ngondro. The participants receiving this empowerment need to take a practicecommitment to recite at least the short mantra of Vajrasattva (OM VAJRASATVA HUM) for a minimum repetition of 7 counts every day.

Details Program schedule

October 3rd: 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Britto Hall, ASHIRVAD, St. Marks Road

Public Talk on Living and Dying Consciously (Introductory talk to the Bardo Teaching)

Admission: OPEN for All. Need to confirm participation in advance.

October 4th: 10:00am to 11:30am at Britto Hall, ASHIRVAD, St. Marks Road

Empowerment of Vajrasattva (dorje sempa) - the Buddha of Primordial Purity

Admission: OPEN for All.

/India PRwire/ - "The Dharma Videos of Lust", first published to acclaim in 2005, endorsed and commended by the world's leading scholars, is now re-issued by UKA Press in a fully revised, unexpurgated edition. Based upon Professor Chandola's own life: a radical university professor leads a comfortable double life as a Brahmin priest, until one day he sits down to watch a few racy videos that have been sent to him in secret - and suddenly comes face to face with his own assumptions. The personal stories in this book blend high comedy with seduction and deceit, Hindu mythology and Bollywood sparkle. Laid bare are mysteries and myths, rituals, rites, and festivals that wallow in sex and violence - exposing the dark side of a religion followed by over one billion people.

"The Hindu priest: the scholarly and human experience of such an individual has never previously been recorded in literature." - Charles S.J. White, Professor Emeritus and Chair, Department of Philosophy and Religion, American University ; 'The Dharma Videos of Lust' : "Religion-wise, philologically, and linguistically correct" and "A rare feat." - Michael Witzel, The Wales Professor of Sanskrit and Indian Studies, Harvard University ; "Fascinating, satirical and erudite, Chandola's novel touches on Hinduism, Sikhism, yoga, rationalism, religion, a woman's right to choose. Each story is a thread added to a shining whole of pleasure, betrayal, lust and pain. Generous, humorous and full of linguistic pleasures, Chandola brilliantly melds the myths of ancient religions with the mysteries of modern life, immersing us in an entirely new and hypnotic world." - Ellen Tanner Marsh, Best Selling author, New York Times ; "While the author illustrates how rituals serve as the glue of human relationships and social values, he also narrates messy collisions of religious tradition with contemporary lifestyles. From vedic cosmology to classical aesthetic theory. A fine reading in an introductory course on Indian Religions." - David Swain, PhD, South Asian Languages and civilizations, University of Chicago

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

The UKA Press is a small independent publisher based in the United Kingdom. The open air auditorium is decorated with the portraits of all great musicians and composers. There is a unique arrangement wherein portrait of the composer automatically gets illuminated when the performer starts his composition.

Music therapy:

Music therapy requires more than just intense meditation on sound. This great master understands the varying vibrational qualities of the different ragas and knows which raga can help a particular disease. Certain ragas can only be played at selected times to be healing.

As a first step in this methodology, the Swamiji requests various musicians to play several notes as specified by him on their respective instruments. Once Swamiji is convinced about the right note and its right frequency it is fed into the synthesiser. The end product is a unique composition created by the Swamiji that assures a primary or supplementary cure for diseases.

The Swamiji has also adapted the basic melodic structure of some select kritis of Saint Tyagaraja like Mokshamu Galada (Saramati), Shobillu Saptaswara (Jaganmohini), Samaja vara gamana (Hindolam) and so on.

A long quest:

The Swamiji's quest began when he was a child of eight. On May 26, 1942, in the small hamlet of Mekedatu, Jayalakshmi and Narasimha Sastri were blessed with a baby boy. They named him Satyanarayana. His parents were engrossed in spiritual practices and Satyanarayana grew up in this atmosphere. Even as a young boy, he displayed a natural inclination to classical music and spirituality.

Satyanarayana became Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji at the age of 22. His mantra was Nadopasana (worship of music).

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

Avadhoota Datta Peetam:

Swamiji’s ashram in Mysore, known as Avadootha Datta Peetam has grown over years to an impressive size and encompasses many aspects of the spiritual life. Here one can study Yoga, the Vedas and Sanskrit.

The Ashrama is open to all people of all religions and thousands of devotees from all over the globe come to the Universal Prayer Hall.

Social Projects

Datta Peetham and it's 77 branches spread all over the world have supported numerous social projects since like providing food, education, shelter, job training and free medical help to the poor.

The Peetham also provides for medical need of both local people and remote villagers where no medical facility is available.

A traditional school to teach Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, Sanskrit studies and priest training in the premises of Mysore Ashram is attracting interested persons from various walks of life. It has also established its own noncommercial TV Channel MTA International(Muslim Television Ahmadiyya International) in the year 1994, which operates and broadcasts various religious and educational programs round the clock.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is declared as Kafir(non-muslim) in Pakistan for rejecting the concept of ‘Jihad’ understood by majority. Instead the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is involved in Jihad by Pen and Jihad against oneself, which is true Jihad permitted in Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is also noted for its active engagements in social welfare and in meeting the medical and educational needs, not only for its own members but also of the communities in which they reside. It made a humble beginning with a small group of 40 people pledging their faith in the same. His preachings were apposed, people took objection to his claiming to be the Promised Messiah. Just like any Divine Messengers, the Promised Messiah was also severely opposed. But he had the community backing, which helped him reach more than four lakh people by the time of his demise. After him, his worthy successors have carried on his message. I.S.T Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed Khalifathul Masih 5th heads the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat organization all over the world.

According to Mr. Syed Tanvir, Press Secretary, Ahmadiyya Muslim India ‘it is our endeavour to propagate religious tolerance towards other religions. The organisation is striving to promote peace and universal brotherhood in the world. Several eminent scholars like Sir Muhammed Zafarullah Khan, former President of International Court of Justice, Hague; Professor Abdus Salam, Nobel Laureate in Physics and Mr. M.M. Ahmad, Chairman of World Bank were member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has come a long way in its existence of 119 years. While many have embraced its beliefs and concepts, others have outrightly rejected. It is considered non-Muslim by a country like Pakistan. However, it’s journey continues. It keeps propagating the universal peace.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

/India PRwire/ - Dr. A.R. Kidwai, the Governor of Haryana, has said that to ensure resurgent India becomes a global power, we have to preserve our unity and integrity and this is possible only if we work to preserve our composite culture and common heritage. This is a challenge not only for the government, but for the people, for each community and each section of the country if India is to survive in this new modern global society, he said while inaugurating a seminar on Preservation of Composite Culture of India at New Delhi.
The seminar was organized by Urdutehzeeb.com in collaboration with the India Islamic Cultural Centre. Urdutehzeb.com is the world’s largest Urdu language portal.

Pointing out that the European Union has emerged as one of the strongest economic blocks of the world, Dr. Kidwai asked: Is it not possible for us in South Asia to come together and form a union for our economic progress without disturbing our borders. It is high time that we came together to chart out a common path for peace, progress and prosperity.

Baroness Emma Nicholson, a member of the European Parliament, who was a special guest at the seminar, said we had to create our own way with half a billion citizens of the European Union. While she said India is unique in its diversity, Europe too has just about every variation of what humanity has created all over the globe. In many ways were more a community of values than of anything else. Unity in diversity is the keynote phrase for the European Union.

Prof. Mashirul Hassan, a wellknown historian and Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, said in his keynote address that it is in the fitness of things that the seminar is being held in Delhi which has been the cradle of our composite culture. It is the city of Mir, Ghalib, Hakim Ajmal Khan and Dr. Ansari - all protagonists of a composite way of living. The theme of our composite culture was also central to our liberation struggle exemplified by Gandhi, Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose.

He said composite culture does not mean the merger of religious, ethnic and linguistic identities. Composite living means the recognition of those identities. A composite society allows and nurtures those identities to flourish. You cannot have plural nationhood without composite living being embedded in it. Composite culture does not mean imposition of uniformity or homogenization It implies recognition of diversity which has been a characteristic feature of the India society, Prof. Hassan underlined.

Dr. Syeda Hameed, member, Plannining Commission, said that the poetry of her great grand father, Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali, was a convergence of communal harmony, feminist thought and educational philosophy. His poetry can be better understood if seen in the context of our composite culture. She said culture was an assimilation of ideas, the cultivation of mind towards a symbiotic structure without boundaries. Thousand of years of Hindu-Muslim interaction led to our cultural evolution. The ganga-jamuni styles in art, writing, religious practices, customs, social mores and sanctions form the basis of India’s composite culture.

Yawar Abbas, a broadcaster and filmmaker, said that an ethically cleansed society its a morally unclean society. It is society which is intellectually bankrupt and socially monotonous and boring. A society that is doomed from the start. It is cross-fertilization which gives a society its strength. This is what gave India its strength. Two of India’s ‘crowning glories’ are a product of this cross-fertilization - Indian classical music and Urdu language. Despite the partition of the country, we are the same people. The mass madness of 1947 cannot destroy the heritage of a thousand years. We made a mistake by agreeing to the partition and its would be a bigger mistake if we accepted the partition in our hearts and reacted in kind to a false two-nation theory.

Dr A.A. Fatmi, Allahabad University, dwelt at length with the Sufi tradition. He said Kabir’s writings transcended religious barriers to reach the heights of universal humanity and brotherhood. The Sufis and Bhakti saints like Guru Nanak and others spread this literary-cultural enlightenment across the country and a new composite culture emerged and took deep roots in the society.

Asghar Ali Engineer, a social activist and scholar, said much of the credit for our composite culture goes to the Sufi saints who wrote in regional languages and dialects. Though they were scholars of Arabic and Persian, they did not write in these languages which were read and spoken only by the elite. Baba Farid is an a extraordinary example. He chose to write in Punjabi and is one of the most popular poet-saints of the region on both sides of the border. He was the first poet of Punjabi language.

Dr Engineering said that it is a political lie to say that Islam was spread with the force of the sword. It is necessary to debunk this false idea because it spread misunderstanding and hatred among the people. Islam spread in India because of the Sufis who were considered a role model by the people. The universal humanism of the Sufis attracted the people and that is how Islam spread in India.

Others who spoke at the seminar included broadcaster and lyricist from London, Chaman Lal Chaman, former Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof M N Farooqi, Mr Thomas Deegan, writer, and editor of group editor of Sahara India newspapers, Mr Aziz Barni.

Urdutehzeeb.com, it was announced at the seminar, will hold seminars and conference on the theme in other cities of India

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

Urdutehzeeb.com is the world’s largest Urdu language web portal. It has become a platform for secular values and modern outlook. The portal has, through a rich fare of textual, audio & visual material, been propagating the composite culture of India.

/India PRwire/ - There is something unusual about one of the delegates to a conference of International Bishops, being held in Canterbury, from 20th to 28th January: the Rt Rev Dr Samson Das, Bishop of Cuttack Diocese in India.

Unusually, Bishop Das, 44, comes from the Baptist rather than the Anglican church tradition and, uniquely, this is his first visit to the UK and he will be based in Marshalswick, St Albans, for a while after the conference.

During his time in Marshalswick, staying as a guest of Marshalswick Baptist Free Church, the Bishop will have a personal meeting with the Bishop of St Albans, the Rt Rev Christopher Herbert. He will pay a visit to an ecumenical church in Milton Keynes and conclude his stay by preaching at Marshalswick Baptist Free Church’s morning service on Sunday 4th February as well as at Evensong at St Albans Abbey that evening.

“Although Baptists do not appoint bishops, Dr Das bears the title and responsibility of ‘Bishop’ because the Baptist churches in Orissa, in India, joined the Church of North India (CNI) when it was formed,” explained the Rev Graham Clarke, minister of Marshalswick Baptist Free Church. “The Baptist work in Orissa was begun by British Baptists working with the Baptist Missionary Society (BMS) and Dr Das gained a doctorate after writing a thesis about this connection with the BMS.

“As a church, we are continuing to support a CNI-sponsored rural hospital in Diptipur, in West Orissa,” he added. “Although perpetually short of funds, this hospital is performing vital healthcare work in that community – and we are keen to have an update on its work from Dr Das.”

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

About the Diocese of Cuttack

The Diocese of Cuttack is the oldest of three Church of North India (CNI) Dioceses in Orissa.

The Diocese runs educational institutions, including schools and one college in the urban centres of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. It also runs schools in people’s homes in the rural areas. Most of these were started by the Baptist Missionary Society (BMS) and continue to provide vital educational services. However they are limited mostly to the urban elite. On the other hand, village Christians have remained poor for generations. They have suffered neglect, discrimination and deprivation.

Within the Diocese, there are 28 pastorates; 135 Christian congregations, and 12,214 communicant members.

About the Rt Rev Dr Samson Das, Bishop of Cuttack

The Rt Rev Dr Samson Das, Bishop of Cuttack was born in Puri, Orissa, in 1963.

He was initially educated at Puri school and college. He was awarded a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Serampore College, Kolkata, India in 1996. In 1997/98, he completed a Special Programme of Advanced Theological Studies from Tainan Theological College and Seminary, Taiwan, and, in 2001, he received a Doctorate in Ministry.

From 1986 to 1992, he worked as a Missionary in the Khond Hills at Baliaguda, PhulbanDistrict; from 1993 to 1996, he worked as the Presbyter at Oriya Baptist church at Behampur and from 1996 until June 2000, he was the Presbyter-In-Charge of the English Baptist Church in Cuttack. Within the Diocese of Cuttack, he has also served as Youth Director, Vice President, Secretary and Bishop’s Commissary.
About Marshalswick Baptist Free Church
Marshalswick Baptist Free Church (MBFC) is actively involved in serving the needs of the local community, including making its premises available to non-members. There are a number of events and activities for all church members and adherents. On a weekly basis, some 15 different organisations and some 1,000 people a week use the church’s premises.

Moving to its current premises in 1968 and becoming Marshalswick Baptist Free Church, the church dates from 1880 when, as Tabernacle Baptist Church, it met first in the Corn Exchange, St Albans. Later, it met (under the patronage of the famous Baptist preacher the Rev Charles Haddon Spurgeon) in purpose-built premises in Victoria Street in the centre of St Albans.

Further information from:

The Rev Graham Clarke, Minister, tel 00 44 (0) 1727 857786

Bob Little, Bob Little Press & PR, tel 00 44 (0) 1727 860405

/India PRwire/ - Retired Sikhs have practical and valuable experience which they have earned in their lifetime and since they come from a wide variety of professions like Defence, Banking , Teaching , Engineering , Lawyers , businessmen etc , hence , there is a huge potential which is lying highly underutilised and simply going waste as there are very few opportunities for them once they are retired.

Since they have lived their best years , now what they need is some activity to keep themselves busy , jobs which are in their city or nearby cities , reasonable income , respectable assignments and solution to their problems . These people want to contribute to the society actively but there seems to be very few avenues as a result of which they are only doing walking , reading newspapers , watching tv or simply sitting on the bench . Why nothing can be done for them as they are so experienced and want to do something ?

Amrit Pal Singh , an Entrepreneur based at Singapore who belongs to Mohali near Chandigarh in India and is an MBA in Marketing and Business development always wanted to do something for the Sikh community and he came out with an innovative and unique platform in the form of a website http://www.retiredsikhs.com/

http://www.retiredsikhs.com/ is an innovative and original idea which attempts to fulfill the following objectives –

1. Connect Retired Sikhs worldwide on a single platform as they have lot of things in common .
2. They can upload their experience , needs and requirements free of charge .
3. Companies , placement consultants , NGO's can hire these experienced Sikhs.
4. Discussion corner to discuss the various issues affecting their life.
5. These people are now available 24x7x365 as anyone can contact them .
6. New avenues may come to them due to internet expansion which currently they cannot get as they are restricted in their own city where they are settled after retirement.

Lets make a postive attempt to do something for the retired Sikhs.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

Disclaimer: The results above are the outcome of the 1st Unofficial Indian Public Relations Survey that was conducted for experimentive purposes only in the Public Relations India Open Source PR blog from June 26 - July 25, 2006. The results are indicative of only the votes given by those 30 participants who visited this blog and chose to participate in the survey. These results might not necessarily reflect on the true workings, image, status, or ranking of any PR agency or other organisations in India. Readers who read this are advised to treat the results as opinions of some select PR professionals from the industry, who willingly shared their inputs on conditions of anonymity, and should be awared that these inputs might be subjective.

Also,

Inputs from participants on the first two questions were removed if they didn't provide valid reasons why they chose that particular agency.

Agencies mentioned in the results of the first and last two questions are in random order.

My advice- just read it for kicks, smile, tell a friend, and don't read too much into it. I wouldn't have said this had we got hundred plus participants. But are these results all crap? Is there an element of truth somewhere in the results? We have many industry professionals with years of experience giving in their inputs to this survey. Maybe somewhere, there might be. I leave that to each reader. I have done mine.

All said and done, thanks a lot to all participants. We know at least you care about the industry.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

Hobbit Hob writes for http://indiapr.blogspot.com
