/India PRwire/ - India has been considered a leading player in promoting medical healthcare facilitation as an industry for some time now. With the best resources and a host of competent doctors, it has become one of the most favored healthcare destinations for a plethora of medical procedures.

What is most attractive about this phenomenon and has been a key driver is the low waiting time treatments in India; added to this is the cost of treatment, which is less than 60% of a comparable cost of treatment in countries like the US or the UK. Procedures ranging from cardiac surgery to renal transplants, gastric bypass, laparoscopic gastric banding and joint replacements are some of the treatments which prove to be very cost effective when carried out in India.

India is at par with international standards in medical technology, infrastructure, equipment and facilities; and the medical professionals are amongst the most well-trained and experienced in their field of specialisation.

Doctors in India have postgraduate degrees and training that are accepted internationally. Another advantage that Indian doctors have over their counterparts in other countries is the high volume of patients that they treat; as a result of which they are more experienced than a lot of their counterparts in other countries. Doctors and nurses in India are fluent in English and therefore communication is, in most cases, made simpler.

Building on the world focus on India as a medical treatment destination, the Sai Medical Group is promoting Indian healthcare on a global scale at the upcoming Medical Tourism Convention being held in California.

The event is organized by the World Medical Tourism and Global Health Congress and is scheduled to last from September 9th to 12th, 2008. The sole intention of the event is to promote the inclusion of medical tourism as part of health insurance plans of various international companies. The convention, dedicated to medical tourism, will have attendees from over 40 countries and will feature over 40 professional speakers from all around the world.

According to the sources, the Sai Medical Group is largest corporate entity in the Indian Medical Tourism Industry. It is also India's most experienced and self-sufficient company that offers various options for those seeking immediate, cost effective private medical treatment in India at the best hospitals along with offering various options for affordable high quality accommodation and top of the line retreats and spas.

The management of the Sai Medical Group aims at representing the Indian Healthcare industry as well as various Indian corporate hospitals. It also aims to bring business to the Indian Medical Tourism sector through this convention. With the continuous effort of various healthcare facilitators, we hope to put India on the global map as one of the best medical tourist destinations.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire
For more information on India & Indian Healthcare facilities, Visit us at Booth no. 131, Grand Ball Room

/India PRwire/ - Continuing its 17 year tradition of meeting the healthcare requirements of the society, the Bangalore Hospital opened its cardiac catheterization laboratory (Cath Lab). The state-of-the-art lab is equipped with the fully loaded and completely digital General Electronic manufactured INNOVA, flat panel Catheterization lab equipment. The new installation marks a significant progression in the hospital's cardio department, which will allow highly effective diagnosis of heart ailments and structural heart defects.

On the occasion of the launch, Dr. C Munichoodappa, Managing Director, The Bangalore Hospital said, "Opening of the Cath lab is yet another major development for our hospital, which is always striving to improve the standard of Healthcare. Our hospital has always adopted a compassionate attitude and in no way do we ever compromise in offering the latest medical technology to our patients." Dr. K. S. Shekhar, Chairman, The Bangalore Hospital, added, "The Cath lab in The Bangalore Hospital currently is amongst the most advanced in the city. This new system is expected to play a critical role in helping clinicians treat a growing number of chronic heart and vascular conditions."

Also present during the launch, Mr. Dinesh Lodha, VP, Wipro GE stated- "GE's Innova Flat Panel Cathlab systems are the world's most advanced cardiovascular imaging systems utilizing an all-digital flat panel detector to produce extremely detailed images of the heart. Specifically, the Innova 2100IQ is a state-of-the-art cardiac X-ray system that enables cardiologists to clearly visualize fine vessels from the heart to the legs both during diagnostic procedures and during placement of interventional devices. We are extremely pleased to associate with The Bangalore Hospital where we believe that the full potential of the equipment would be realized."

The Innova is the only flat panel cardiovascular imaging system proven to significantly reduce radiation dose. The typical diagnostic cardiac exam, which usually consists of seven to ten coronary scans, could be reduced to 2 left coronary angiography scans and one coronary spin scan using the "InnovaSpin" technology. This would mean taking fewer images, thereby exposing the physician and patient to lower X-ray radiation dose and also subjecting the patient to less contrast media. It could also produce time economies that speed up life-saving diagnoses and procedures. The system's 20 centimeter-square detector allows a cardiologist to visualize the entire heart in a single view.

The Bangalore hospital was an initiative of about 44 medical specialists. Way back in 1991 they joined hands and started the multi-disciplinary hospital adding a big landmark to medical development in the city. Even today, it is completely run by doctors, sustaining high medical ethics and standard of treatment. The hospital's primary objective is to render specialty and high standard medical care at a reasonable cost to its middle and upper middle class patients, who comprise the majority. The Hospital is equipped with most of the medicine and surgical facilities including super specialties in Cardiology, Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Urology and Renal Transplantations, Gastroenterology and Radiotherapy among others.

The hospital has been intensely involved in modernizing various departments and also has extensive future plans for innovation and expansion. Suvidha, a retirement settlement project has been planned for Rs. 45 crore and Rs. 60 crore is being invested in infrastructure expansion including acquisition of neighbouring properties. A super specialty cancer hospital is also on the anvil by The Bangalore Hospital.

In recent times our advanced lifestyle has induced various forms of cardio vascular diseases. Heart disease is no more associated with ageing and it can affect just about anyone. Such is the gravity of the situation in India that the World Health Organization estimates that by year 2010, 60 per cent of the world's cardiac patients will be from India itself. Improvisation of the cardiac department in the Bangalore hospital definitely is an important step taken for the society, which is so prone to cardiac diseases.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

About The Bangalore Hospital

The Bangalore Hospital, established by Sushruta Medical Aid and Research Hospital Limited in 1991, is a premier 180 bed hi tech multi specialty hospital in the corporate sector. Around 44 eminent medical consultants and specialists trained both in India and abroad, joined hands to establish this landmark hospital.

/India PRwire/ - RG Stone Urology Centre, part of the RG Stone Hospital Chain, India's only national chain of Super Speciality hospitals for Urology & Laparoscopy etc., today announced the success of operations on three elderly males who were suffering from 'Prostate Enlargement' or 'Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia' (BPH). All three patients, who had prostates weighing more than 100 gms, were not appropriate candidates for the older conventional technique of 'Transurethral Resection of the Prostate' (TURP), which is unsuitable for operations on prostates weighing more than 80 gms. Also TURP is not recommended for elderly patients, patients using cardiac pacemakers or anticoagulant medicines etc. At the RG Stone Urology Centre, located at Suguna Hospital, Rajajinagar, Bangalore, the patients were successfully operated upon using the advanced 'Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate' (HOLEP) Technique.

The HOLEP Technique uses the 100-Watt Holmium Laser by which even the 280 gms prostate was successfully operated. Also HOLEP Technique can be used on even those BPH patients who are using cardiac pacemakers, or those who are denied surgery due to complications expected from open surgery. This is because HOLEP Technique can operate upon prostate irrespective of the size of prostate; it is not an open surgery; it requires short hospital stay, is safer, and offers faster recovery as compared to the conventional technique TURP. RG Stone Urology Centre is the only institute in entire Karnataka to possess the HOLEP Technique. This information was given here today by Dr. Anand M., Chief Urologist, RG Stone Urology Centre.

The first patient, Dr. Venkatesh Patil, an Ayurvedic Practitioner aged 58, was diagnosed with BPH at RG Stone. His prostate weighed about 100 gms, and his being a cardiac patient further complicated the problem. He was operated upon using the HOLEP Technique considering all his co-existing problems. HOLEP achieved complete enucleation in a single sitting, which was followed by an uneventful & quick recovery.

The second patient, Mr. Vishwamitra Cibal, a Bank employee aged 57, too was diagnosed with BPH. He is a physically challenged person, suffering from polio in both legs. Diabetes and Hypertension complicated his case even more. He was found to have a prostate weighing 140 gms. Considering his multiple problems, he too was operated upon using the HOLEP Technique. Here too, HOLEP achieved complete enucleation in a single sitting, which was followed by an uneventful & quick recovery.

The third patient, Dr. Murali Saletore, a retired scientist from Boeing Aircraft Division-Seattle, USA, too was diagnosed with BPH, with a prostate weighing 110 gms. He too, successfully underwent HOLEP surgery, achieving complete enucleation in a single sitting, followed by an uneventful & quick recovery.

Speaking on the HOLEP Technique Dr. Anand said, "The advent of laser application in urology has revolutionized treatment of prostate and stone disease in recent times. Most of the patients have large prostates with significant co-morbid illnesses and several of them are on anti-coagulants which pose significant risk to the conventional procedure of TURP. However because of the HOLEP advantages, all of them can have complete enucleation in single sitting regardless of prostate size and an uneventful & quick recovery. Also, so far none of our patients have required blood transfusions as the bleeding during HOLEP is negligible. Unlike TURP, HOLEP is also a viable option for patients with cardiac pacemakers as HOLEP does not use electrocautery which interferes with pacemakers. Even during the follow-ups patients have not had any problems with sequlae like strictures or bladder-neck scarring which are seen more often following TURP."

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Manish Bansal, Managing Director- RG Scientific Enterprises Ltd, said, "We, at RG Stone, are highly pleased to announce a host of benefits for the people of Karnataka, to celebrate the Independence Day. There will be a 50% discount on OPD consultations, followed by a 10% discount on procedures, for all the senior citizens of Karnataka. Also, we will be conducting free camps every month at our Bangalore centre for all the patients who are suffering from any urological disorder like Kidney Stone, Enlarged Prostate, Kidney/Prostate Cancer, Female Urinary Incontinence etc. Tests like Ultra sound, Blood, Urine, Uroflowmetry, PSA, worth Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 2,500, will be done free at the camps."

"Furthermore, RG Stone, located at the heart of the city in Suguna Hospital, Rajajinagar, will also be extending its services towards the South East of Bangalore before the year end. RG Stone is also extending its services to the stone belt areas like Kolar, Tumkur, Pavagada, with its Information Centers & Clinics, and will soon be present in seven more districts across the state," added Dr. Bansal.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

The RG Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hospitals Chain is India's only national chain of Super Speciality hospitals for Urology and Laparoscopyoffering all available modalities of Stone Disease Management and Prostate Disease Management. The ISO 9001:2000 certified organization, was established in 1987 with its foundation in Mumbai. Today RG Stone centers are present in 12 cities in India including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Rajkot, Goa, Mohali, Jaipur, Agra, Chennai, Ludhiana, Moradabad and Bangalore. The founder CMD of the chain, Dr. Bhim Sen Bansal, is widely recognized as the 'Father of Lithotripsy' in India. He began with a vision of providing new & revolutionary technologies in the field, and quality standards at par with international ones, to the masses of India. Today the hospitals offer US FDA Approved, state-of-the-art equipment along with medical specialists with unmatched expertise in the field. The combination of the most advanced equipment with the best doctors in the field has helped RG Stone achieve many "first"s and "only"s in India.

RG Stone holds the Guinness Record for treating a 13 cm Kidney Stone. RG Stone is the first Super Speciality Urology Hospital in India. It is also the first hospital to install Siemens Lithotripsy in India and the first to install 100 Watt Holmium Laser in India.

/India PRwire/ - A three member team of ophthalmologists representing Grewal Eye Institute (GEI), region's leading premium Eye Care Chain, has returned to Chandigarh after participating in the 5-day World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) 2008 conducted by the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) held at Hong Kong. Dr. SPS Grewal, CEO, GEI, led the GEI team at the WOC 2008. Returing to City Beautiful, he announced that GEI had once again done the country proud by becoming the first institute in the world to successfully conduct a revolutionary Pilot Study on the use of 'Ologen Biodegradable Collagen Matrix Implant' in 'Phacoemulsification combined with Trabeculectomy' (Phaco-Trab).

The GEI team presented the successful results of the revolutionary first Pilot Study of Ologen Implant in Phaco-Trab at the WOC, the Most Prestigious Platform for Ophthalmology in the world. The Original Research Work done by GEI was presented under the title of 'Adjunctive Use of Biodegradable Porous Collagen-Glycosaminoglycan Implant in Phaco-Emulsification combined with Trabeculectomy for Surgical Management of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma' to over 10,000 delegates from all over the world.

Speaking on the success of the pilot study, Dr Grewal said, "It is a matter of great pride & honour for us to be at the forefront of revolutionary research work in the international arena and to be the flag-bearers for our country at highly prestigious platforms like the WOC. We are highly pleased with the pilot study results of the use of Ologen Implant in Phaco-Trab for simultaneously surgically treating both Cataract & Glaucoma. Uptil now, when an ophthalmologist decides to undertake treating both Cataract & Glaucoma of the eye in a single surgery, the conventional method available is 'Phaco-Trab with Mitomycin-C'. The use of Mitomycin-C in Phaco-Trab many times leads to significant post-operative complications in the eye."

"It is a great achievement for us that we, at GEI, are playing our humble part in the development of a safer and better alternative technique, the 'Ologen Implant in Phaco-Trab'. After the resounding success of the pilot study and the exceedingly encouraging response at the WOC, we are highly hopeful that as more and more comprehensive research is done on this technique and as it becomes the primary treatment for simultaneous Cataract-Glaucoma, millions of patients, not only in India, but all over the world, will benefit from our hard work," adds Dr Grewal.

In the conventional method 'Phaco-Trab with Mitomycin-C', Mitomycin-C is used as a Chemotherapeutic Agent. Its purpose is to maintain the surgically created passage by inhibiting fibroblast proliferation. But its use leads to significant complications. The major drawbacks of using Mitomycin-C are delayed wound healing, excessive drainage & shallowing of anterior chamber of the eye, thin cystic bleb area, and late wound dehiscence & high incidence of late endophthalmitis where patient develops very serious infection in the eye years after the surgery. Also the use of Mitomycin-C decreases the likelihood of an aggressive post-operative fibro-blast mediated scarring process; it is radiomimetic, may cause widespread cell death, induce acellularity and apoptosis, alter bleb morphology, and increase risk of complications such as hypotony maculopathy, corneal toxicity, wound leakage, infection and endophthalmitis.

The 'Ologen Biodegradable Collagen Matrix Implant' is a new, safer and more effective alternative. Ologen is a Collagen Matrix Implant, a biodegradable scaffold, which can induce a regenerative non-scarring wound healing process without the use of medicines like Mitomycin-C. The Ologen Implant is a 3D collagen-glycosaminoglycan copolymer that leads to a random reorganization of regenerating myofibroblasts, fibroblasts and the extra-cellular matrix i.e. collagen. This matrix has an added advantage that it is fully biodegradable with time.

This collagen implant improves the remodeling of the regenerating tissues and prevents scar formation. Ologen Collagen Matrix induces the fibroblasts to grow randomly, and leads to the wound healing normally. The collagen's porous structure can work as reservoir, a buffering system, and controlled drainage. It randomizes the growth of myofibroblasts and creates a new physiologic environment between anterior chamber and subconjunctival space. Unlike anti-fibrotic agents like Mitomycin-C which reduce the physiologic barrier by inhibition, Ologen Implant maintains the physiologic barrier by regeneration which keeps the function of bleb and normalizes the dynamic aqueous balance to create a safe conjunctival system.

The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) (www.icoph.org) is an organization founded in 1927 with the aim of educating ophthalmologists and helping them participate in a worldwide community to share information, tools, and support. The ICO is a federation of more than 100 national and subspecialty societies of ophthalmologists and related organizations worldwide. The ICO hosts a variety of proactive programs, including the biennial World Ophthalmology Congresses.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

Grewal Eye Institute, with facilities at Chandigarh & Panchkula, is the world's fourth JCI accredited (thehighest quality accreditation)and also India's first ISO 9001:2000 certified eye care hospital chain. GEI is the single stop for all eye care needs under one roof. The institute offers internationally benchmarked, premium quality eye care with many cutting edge techniques like the 'iLASIK', the ultimate in laser vision correction, available at a single premises. GEI has been at the forefront of bringing new technological and medical tools not only to the region, but also to India. GEI became the first institute in the entire Indian Sub-Continent to offer the revolutionary 'Collagen Crosslinking with Riboflavin' (C3R) Treatment for the dreaded Keratoconus disease.

The Grewal Group also offers India's first professional BSc (Hons) degree course in Optometry and Ophthalmic Techniques under the GEI School of Optometry. Roshni, an NGO by the group, aims at assisting poor eye patients in need of treatment. The institute, through tie-ups with major national & international insurance firms, offers cashless transactions. The informative & user-friendly website ' gei.co.in' assists patients both from India & abroad. The institute keeps conducting various eye camps, public education seminars and symposiums for the Continuous Medical Education of Ophthalmologists, on a regular basis. ***

/India PRwire/ - His Excellency Dr. Dominique Dreyer, Swiss Ambassador to India has inaugurated ‘Indo-Swiss Know How Transfer Program for Facial Deformity Correction (Face Surgery)’ on Sunday at Hyderabad Cleft Society. Mr. P Ramakanth Reddy, Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Prof. Hermann Sailer, President, Cleft Children International and internationally renowned Craniofacial Surgeon from Zurich, Switzerland were also present at the event. To address the concern of lack of skills and infrastructure, Prof. Sailer supporting the know how transfer where medical knowledge and infrastructure, to treat complex craniofacial deformities, is transferred from Switzerland to the Hyderabad Cleft Society, Hyderabad, India by means of regular education sessions and specific infrastructure donations. The Cleft Children is supported by the people of Switzerland from all walks of life including the medical fraternity, the medical equipment manufacturers, the fashion industry, the precision instrument industry and the common people of Switzerland.

Facial deformities are usually present at birth and cause lot of concern in the society around the child that is born with such deformities. This is because so much importance is placed on facial features in the present day society. So far facial deformities like cleft lip and palate defects are being addressed by some organizations and hospitals for treatment. But a large number of patients with more complex deformities are not treated because of the lack of skills and infrastructure present in India.

Every Year 30,000 children are born with cleft and craniofacial defects in India and 2,000 children are born in Andhra Pradesh alone. The incidence of such child births in Andhra Pradesh was done as a pilot study by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2000. Most children born with such defects are born to parents with low socioeconomic background. This is because the major causes of clefts in India are undernourished pregnant mothers.

The need for Know How Transfer

Since most patients born with facial deformities are too poor to afford treatment they need help in the form of free treatment. Each child with such defects requires multiple procedures that cost between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 50,000 each. This includes cost of infrastructure, treatment materials and Human Resource. The present need in this field of medical care is to employ a skilled work force that can give this treatment all year long. There is also a need to provide good infrastructure to such needy patients. All this needs to be done through donations as the patients themselves cannot pay for these services.

Know-how transfer helps Indian Children

The Hyderabad Cleft Society (HCS) was set up in 1997 to help children born with facial deformities get treatment done so that they are accepted into the society as normal individuals. The HCS has done more than 10,000 cleft and craniofacial surgeries since 1997. The Hyderabad Cleft Society has started the GSR Institute of Craniofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery in 2005, a 50-bed hospital to provide free treatment for children born or suffering with cleft and craniofacial defects. This Institute is equipped to do more than 1200 cleft and craniofacial surgeries every year free of charge to the patient. The Institute also provides free Speech Therapy, Orthodontics, Pediatric counseling and Psychological counseling for such children and adults.

All this has been possible because of know-how transfer programs like the one that is in progress now. It has enabled the Medical Community treating such children learn the cutting edge surgical practices and technologies used in developed nations to help children in India. It has also helped medical centers procure the latest equipment used around the world to benefit Indian children. All this can be given free of cost to the patient.

Until now the Hyderabad Cleft Society has received more than two million US Dollars as donations towards patient care and infrastructure procurement.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

The Hyderabad Cleft Society (HCS) was set up in 1997 to help children born with facial deformities get treatment done so that they are accepted into the society as normal individuals.

/India PRwire/ - Former President Bill Clinton, joined today by the UN Special Envoy on Malaria and the Chairman and CEO of Novartis, announced agreements with six companies – Calyx Chemicals, Cipla, Holley Pharmaceuticals, Ipca Laboratories, Mangalam Drugs and PIDI Standard – that lower by 30 percent the price of a leading artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) for malaria and that reduce by 70 percent the price volatility of artmesinin, the key raw material for this and other ACTs.

Up to 500 million people around the globe need malaria treatment each year. Today’s agreements make prices for malaria drugs more affordable and sustainable to help meet growing global demand. The prices will be available to the 69 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean that make up the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) purchasing consortium. “Nearly every life lost to malaria could have been saved with access to effective medicines,” President Clinton said. “My Foundation has helped organize markets for HIV/AIDS drugs and green technologies, and I am proud that we have been able to extend this model to malaria. Today's announcement is an important step forward in global efforts to increase access to affordable and effective malaria treatment, and I applaud the commitments of these companies to lower volatility in this market and offer low and sustainable prices that will save more lives.”

The scale up ACT access has been challenged by significant volatility in the artemisinin market. Beginning in 2004, a rapid but uneven increase in ACT demand led to the price of artemesinin fluctuating by more than 700 percent. Novartis, the dominant ACT supplier to date, absorbed much of the financial impact, shielding patients from higher prices which would have decreased access. However, acting alone Novartis cannot meet increased future demand across the globe. Today’s agreements will help to mitigate risk so new suppliers can enter the market.

Under the agreements negotiated by CHAI, Ipca and Cipla (both based in Mumbai, India) will offer a co-blister formulation of artesunate+amodiaquine (AS+AQ)—one of the most widely used ACTs—at or below an average ceiling price of 48 cents per treatment, a reduction of more than 30 percent from current market rates. They also will offer artemether-lumafantrine (AL), the other most common ACT, at or below an average ceiling price of 91 cents, the current price available from Novartis. Among the other manufacturers party to the agreements, Calyx (Mumbai) and Mangalam (Mumbai) are active ingredient suppliers, and Holleypharma (Beijing) and PIDI (Guangzhou) are suppliers of the raw material, artemisinin. “I come from a family of farmers and know first hand about both agricultural production and pharmaceutical production,” said Premchand Godha, Managing Director of Ipca. “Poor planning, bad weather and other factors can dramatically influence price and cause volatility. We appreciate the Clinton Foundation’s holistic approach to reducing that volatility and making lower drug prices sustainable in the long term.” “Since 2001, Novartis has supplied more than 180 million treatments of Coartem® to malaria-endemic countries,” said Daniel Vasella, Chairman and CEO of Novartis. “We know first-hand addressing the health problems of the developing world is challenging and no single player can be successful. To make a meaningful and sustainable impact for patients, governments, international institutions, industry, and civil society must join forces.”

CHAI has taken several additional steps to ensure a sustainable supply of ACTs. In June, CHAI published a global ACT demand forecast to improve the predictability of demand and enable suppliers to make informed production planning decisions. CHAI also has provided extensive technical assistance to partner ACT manufacturers to expedite regulatory approval. As the Global Fund, UNITAID, and the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative increase funding for ACTs, this support will help expand the set of high-quality suppliers able to meet growing demand. In addition to their price commitments, Ipca and Cipla have agreed to pursue rapid development and regulatory approval of a fixed-dose combination for AS+AQ, which is not yet available from any supplier approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) but is preferable to the co-blister form.

CHAI is committed to ensuring that its agreements offer high-quality products at sustainable prices, and these products meet the quality assurance standards of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Ipca’s AS+AQ formulation has been approved by the WHO. All other formulations included in the agreement have been submitted for review with data establishing bioequivalence, based on studies conducted by contact research organizations that have been successfully audited by the WHO or a stringent regulatory authority. In many countries, half or more of all malaria patients buy their drugs from local shops, where ACT prices include distribution mark-ups and are too expensive despite the low prices offered by

manufacturers. To help ensure these low prices are translated to access for everyone who needs ACTs, CHAI has piloted the use of subsidies to lower prices in these shops. This pilot has had rapid impact, decreasing retail prices from $10 to $0.50 and increasing ACT access among children by 60-fold. CHAI now is helping Tanzania and other countries take this model to scale.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

About Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative

Since 2002, the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) has assisted countries in implementing integrated and large-scale programs for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. CHAI partners with 22 countries to provide technical assistance, mobilize human and financial resources, and facilitate the application of best practices. CHAI also helps to reduce prices for drugs and diagnostics, which can be accessed by 69 countries in its Procurement Consortium. Today, 1.4 million people are benefiting from medicines purchased under agreements negotiated by CHAI. With the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CHAI began working on malaria in 2007 with an initial focus on supporting expanded access to ACTs.

/India PRwire/ - As we all know that India is famous for its low cost medical treatments and world class medical healthcare facilities. International patients who are suffering from mastectomy and can’t afford the high cost of the mastectomy surgery in their country are wishing to have their mastectomy in India due to its low cost. Surgery of breast cancer is called as mastectomy. The breast is composed of mainly fatty tissue. Within this tissue is a network of lobes, which are made up of tiny, tube-like structures called lobules that contain milk glands. Tiny ducts connect the glands, lobules, and lobes and carry the milk from the lobes to the nipple, located in the middle of the areola (darker area that surrounds the nipple of the breast). About 90% of all breast cancers originate in the ducts or lobes. Almost 75% of all breast cancers begin in the cells lining the milk ducts and are called ductal carcinomas. Indian hospitals are arousing the interest of the international patients for undergoing their mastectomy in India at some of the finest hospitals at Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Goa by the best surgeons trained from all over the world.

There are several types of mastectomy procedures:

total (or simple) mastectomy: removal of the entire breast, including the nipple, the areola, and most of the overlying skin. In addition, some of the lymph nodes under the arm, also called the axillary lymph glands, may be removed. The bean-shaped lymph nodes under the arm drain the lymphatic vessels from the upper arms, the majority of the breast, the neck, and the underarm regions. Often, breast cancer spreads to these lymph nodes, thereby entering the lymphatic system andallowing the cancer to spread to other parts of the body.

modified radical mastectomy: removal of the entire breast, including the nipple, the areola, the overlying skin, some of the lymph nodes under the arm, and the lining over the chest muscles. In some cases, part of the chest wall muscle is also removed.

radical mastectomy: removal of the entire breast, including the nipple, the areola, the overlying skin, the lymph nodes under the arm, and the chest muscles. For many years, this was the standard operation. However, today a radical mastectomy is rarely performed and is generally only recommended when the breast cancer has spread to the chest muscles.

Risk Factors

A risk factor is anything that increases a person's chance of developing a disease, including cancer. There are risk factors that can be controlled, such as smoking, and risk factors that cannot be controlled, such as age and family history. Although risk factors can influence disease, they do not necessarily cause cancer. Some people with several risk factors never develop the disease, while others with no known risk factors do. Knowing your risk factors and communicating with your doctor can help guide you in making wise lifestyle and health-care choices. Many cases of breast cancer occur in women with no obvious risk factors. This means that women need to be aware of possible changes in their breasts, perform self-examinations, and schedule clinical breast examinations and mammograms. It is likely that multiple risk factors influence the development of breast cancer. The following factors can raise a person's risk of developing breast cancer.

Health Tourism India acclaimed healthcare referral company providing superior surgical treatment for mastectomy through established relationships with finest medical doctors and facilities in India. India makes continuous efforts to help patients receive world-class medical treatments at considerably lower costs and in almost zero waiting periods. In a short span of time, India has successfully contributed to the well-being of a large number of patients from all part of the world. India understands the importance of reliability and dependability. Indian hospitals work hard to gain patients' confidence.
