Engineers and scientists can combine NI Wi-Fi DAQ with the NI LabVIEW software platform to meet their wireless structural diagnostic, environmental and machine condition monitoring application needs by reducing cabling costs and increasing flexibility without compromising performance.

Jointly developed with Elektrobit Corporation of Finland, the new driver is compatible with Release 2.1 of AUTOSAR (*1), the open software architecture for automobiles from the AUTOSAR automotive software standards consortium.

The new microcontroller driver will be available from Fujitsu Microelectronics and Elektrobit from July 18, 2008. As electronic control technology becomes more pervasive and the number of electronic components increase, the software that controls these components is becoming more complex and larger, leading to mounting costs for manufacturers of vehicles and electronic control units (ECUs).

AUTOSAR is a standards consortium for automotive onboard systems software, dedicated to addressing this problem - by creating a common specification for onboard software, the same software can be re-used regardless of the microcontroller it is running on. The AUTOSAR Release 2.1 specification standard was recently published and encompasses FlexRay (*2), the next-generation in-vehicle networking standard.

Fujitsu Microelectronics became a premium member of the AUTOSAR organization in 2005 and has taken an active role in the development of onboard microcontrollers. In 2007, the company formed a strategic partnership with Elektrobit, a leading developer of software for automotive onboard systems. The companies worked together to develop a version of Elektrobit’s “EB tresos” software for Fujitsu Microelectronics’ MB91460 Series of microcontrollers, with both companies agreeing to distribute an AUTOSAR-compatible driver.

In accordance with this agreement, Fujitsu Microelectronics and Elektrobit jointly developed two drivers compatible with AUTOSAR 2.1: one for the dashboard-control microcontroller (*3) MB91F467DA, and one for the FlexRay 2.1 microcontroller, MB91F465XA. Both drivers are available as of July 2008. The AUTOSAR Release 2.1 now encompasses FlexRay, so customers using Fujitsu Microelectronics’ microcontrollers and the new driver developed with Elektrobit can efficiently develop applications that take advantage of FlexRay.

Optimizing ADI’s Blackfin and Advantiv Advanced TV Solutions in Yamaha’s AVRs

In these Yamaha digital home theater receivers, a single Blackfin processor and three advanced television ICs from the Advantiv advanced televisions solutions portfolio work in concert to enable features that until recently were found only in AVRs at high-end price points.

To enable shorter time to market and reduced overall system cost for Yamaha’s application, ADI integrated software drivers for three Advantiv advanced television solutions ICs, the ADV7441A, AD9389B and ADV7172, into the Blackfin system software package. Optimized audio and video software modules supplied by ADI included Dolby® Digital (AC-3) decoder, DTS® decoding, and the standards-compliant HDMI repeater functionality with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection).

More specifically, the receivers use Blackfin to perform digital signal processing, including multichannel audio decoding and post-processing. In addition, the Blackfin processor performs microcontroller functions that control the system and drive the user interface, putting users in convenient command of the entertainment experience through on-screen displays on connected TVs or monitors.

Three high-performance video and connectivity ICs from ADI’s Advantiv advanced television solutions portfolio are used: the ADV7441A integrated video decoder and HDMI receiver, the AD9389B HDMI transmitter, and ADV7172 digital video encoder. The single-chip ADE51xx and ADE55xx metering devices integrate a proven energy measurement core, an 8051 microcontroller, a LCD (liquid crystal display) driver with contrast control, a full hardware RTC (real-time clock), two UARTs (universal asynchronous receivers-transmitters), and intelligent battery management technology. For wide-dynamic-range applications, the AD8372 offers a broad 41-dB gain range, with 1-dB steps and 0.2-dB resolution. The gain is programmed through a bidirectional 4-pin, 8-bit serial port, which consists of clock, latch, data input and data output lines for each channel. The 41-dB control range enables designers to keep input signals above the noise floor, while using the full-scale range of a wider variety of ADCs (analog-to-digital converters).
