/India PRwire/ - "The Dharma Videos of Lust", first published to acclaim in 2005, endorsed and commended by the world's leading scholars, is now re-issued by UKA Press in a fully revised, unexpurgated edition. Based upon Professor Chandola's own life: a radical university professor leads a comfortable double life as a Brahmin priest, until one day he sits down to watch a few racy videos that have been sent to him in secret - and suddenly comes face to face with his own assumptions. The personal stories in this book blend high comedy with seduction and deceit, Hindu mythology and Bollywood sparkle. Laid bare are mysteries and myths, rituals, rites, and festivals that wallow in sex and violence - exposing the dark side of a religion followed by over one billion people.

"The Hindu priest: the scholarly and human experience of such an individual has never previously been recorded in literature." - Charles S.J. White, Professor Emeritus and Chair, Department of Philosophy and Religion, American University ; 'The Dharma Videos of Lust' : "Religion-wise, philologically, and linguistically correct" and "A rare feat." - Michael Witzel, The Wales Professor of Sanskrit and Indian Studies, Harvard University ; "Fascinating, satirical and erudite, Chandola's novel touches on Hinduism, Sikhism, yoga, rationalism, religion, a woman's right to choose. Each story is a thread added to a shining whole of pleasure, betrayal, lust and pain. Generous, humorous and full of linguistic pleasures, Chandola brilliantly melds the myths of ancient religions with the mysteries of modern life, immersing us in an entirely new and hypnotic world." - Ellen Tanner Marsh, Best Selling author, New York Times ; "While the author illustrates how rituals serve as the glue of human relationships and social values, he also narrates messy collisions of religious tradition with contemporary lifestyles. From vedic cosmology to classical aesthetic theory. A fine reading in an introductory course on Indian Religions." - David Swain, PhD, South Asian Languages and civilizations, University of Chicago

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

The UKA Press is a small independent publisher based in the United Kingdom.

/India PRwire/ - The author who is a Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor at Harvard Business School was in Bangalore on 17th July for a discussion on his book with Rama Bijpurkar,Market Strategist and author of We are Like that Only and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw; Chairperson and MD Biocon Ltd.

For the first time since the rise of Western capitalism, entrepreneurs in China and India can ignore New York and London—and still build companies worth billions. Thanks to social and economic revolutions, Asia has captured the best minds and money from all around the world. Billions of Entrepreneurs is a compelling account of how China and India are reshaping business, politics and society around the world.

In Billions of Entrepreneurs, Tarun Khanna, uses on-the-ground stories and thorough research to show how China and India are embracing the world on their distinct terms. Entrepreneurs are powering change through new business models and bringing models and brining hope to countless people. Through intriguing, often provocative comparisons of triumphs and travails in both countries, the author illuminated critical areas which include the challenges of government 2.4 billion people with entrepreneurial tendencies, need for information accessibility, transparency, reliability, balance between private property rights and public interests, need to encourage and fund indigenous enterprise , role of overseas Chinese and Indians in development back home and rise of medical tourism and the inequality of heath care.

Tarun said China and India are radically different –one was top down and the other bottom – up. “How they will complement each other when they have two different political and cultural systems is a question to analyse and understand. “

“India is argumentative; China is about force. If a road has to be laid, it is laid. In India; you’d have a hundred disputes. But we have to work around these,” Tarun said.

But Kiran Mazumdar – Shaw said India and China must work together. “How when we have different systems do we turn partners in growth? I reason that we are competing when it comes to marketing and manufacturing, but a great opportunity lies in research. How do we synergise when we are countries with a vast cultural divide?”

The book reveals how such differences will influence China’s and India’s future development as well as what the two countries can—and must—learn from each other today. A compelling account, Billion of Entrepreneurs paints a vivid picture of how China and India are reshaping business, politics, and society around the world.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

/India PRwire/ - Indian Muslim Council-USA (IMC-USA), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India ’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, has urged the State Department to refuse US visa to Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of the State of Gujarat, India on the grounds of his continued subversion of state apparatus against securing justice to the victims of 2002 pogroms and institutional violations of religious freedom of the minorities in his state.

IMC has learned that Narendra Modi is actively trying to obtain an US visa in order to rehabilitate his image as a pogrom politician and clear the grounds for moving into the national politics in India. IMC-USA, one of the founding organizations of the Coalition Against Genocide (CAG) campaign that successfully lobbied to prevent Modi from getting an US visa in 2005, is reviving the campaign to ensure that Narendra Modi is not allowed to enter the United States.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Rasheed Ahmed, President of IMC-USA detailed the institutionalized nature of the violations of the religious freedoms in the State of Gujarat including the subversion of justice to the victims of 2002 pogroms, marginalization by means of economic and social boycott and a 'freedom of religion' act which effectively curtails religious freedom by requiring to register and get approval of state officials before believing in a different faith.

The letter further stressed: "Refusing the visa to an egregious violator of religious freedoms such as Modi sends a clear message to all the Hindu nationalists who openly espouse a future India where religious minorities would at the best be second class citizens, that such actions will have consequences and they will be considered persona non grata by much of the civilized world."

Indian Muslim Council-USA is the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with 10 chapters across the nation.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire
CONTACT:
Zeeshan Farees
phone/fax: 1-800-839-7270
email: info@imc-usa.org

/India PRwire/ - We are all born to Cadbury! For 60 years, generations in India have enjoyed the taste of Cadbury. In fact the word Cadbury is a classic example of a brand coming to symbolize a product category.

Setting up shop in India in 1947 as a trading concern, Cadbury with brands like Cadbury Dairy Milk (CDM), Bournvita, CDM Éclairs, 5 Star, Perk to name a few, is India’s leading confectionery company with over 70% market share in chocolates.

The story of how Cadbury came to be the world's pre-eminent chocolate brand and its definitive history is to be told for the first time in a new book by John Bradley, Cadbury's Purple Reign. Touching hearts, stirring souls, re-creating the nostalgia, so reminiscent of a classic. Attempting to answer why Cadbury is so loved by so many people across the globe.

At a special meet held at Crossword today, Anand Kripalu, Managing Director – Indian Sub-Continent, Cadbury Ltd. unveiled the book in India. Speaking on this occasion, Anand Kripalu said, “It is a fascinating and must read book for all Cadbury lovers, practicing and aspiring marketers as well as students. Even for me as an insider, reading the book was a discovery of many unknown facts!”

Cadbury’s ‘Purple Reign’ is a no holds barred account of the rollercoaster ride the organization has experienced, and how it ultimately achieved much success. The fascinating journey that has been the history of Cadbury makes it an ideal example with which to illuminate the story of consumerism.

/India PRwire/ - Mrs. Neera Shastri, noted women activist, National BJP Leader & daughter-in-law of Ex-Prime Minister of India Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri and 5 Poets of international repute released Gireesh Sharma's book - 'How to Win Heart of Your Wife'.

In a program organized at Gandhi Peace Foundation, Mrs. Neera Shastri, and 5 poets namely, Kavi Mahendra Ajanabi, Kaviyitri Dr. Madhu Mohini, Kavi Deepak Gupta, Kavi Chetan Anand and Kavi Krishan Kant Madhur released the book - "How to Win Heart of Your Wife". Click here to read the book.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Neera Shastri, expressed her thoughts on the conditions of women in India. She started her speech attacking the foeticide, "Female is the originator of the society, she is the developer and the power of the mankind. Unfortunately, at many places she is killed even before her birth, in the womb of her mother." She added, "In almost 85% of the cases, women have to face biased attitudes at their homes both before and after the marriage. After marriage, the treatment to women is not fair and they are bound in many social restrictions. On the other hand there are no restriction on men in the society."

She also attacked on the dual upbringing standards for boys and girls, "Boys are offered much more opportunities than girl, in education and self development. On one hand development of girls is supressed, and on other hand she is expected to do excellent tasks. She is supposed to take care of everything, display patience, multi-task. Nobody asks a water of glass from boys, but everybody expects a girl to learn household chores as soon as possible. "

Commenting on the condition of working women in society she said, "Working women have double responsibilities and a very tough life. When she is back from office, nobody cares whether she is tired or exhausted, all expects that she should complete all house chores before going to bed. All this is expected from her without even expressing her displeasure."

Appreciating the book and the author, she said, "It is nice that Mr. Gireesh has researched this topic throughly, and come out with a book, that opposes bad practices against women at home, and propogates a positive thought among husbands to take care of their wives. After marriage, a girl is given many advices from her mother, to make adjustments at home. While to a son, mother always teaches machismo. I am sure this book will hit the market and be appreciated by husbands and they would learn how to better respect and love their wives."

Further, she quoted a few chapters from the book which she liked personally. She said chapter 1. Women in Indian Society, chapter 2. Wife - Big Hearts, Small Dreams, Chapter 4. Tender Wives - Tough Life and chapter 4. Sweet Home: A No Smoking No Alcohol Zone are very good and explains how to build a strong foundation of married life. She further appreciated the chapter titled 'Thank You in-laws for such a Wonder Full Wife' for suggesting a husband to pay due respect to his in-laws as much as he expects from his wife to respect his parents.

The program was followed by a Hasya Kavi Sammelan themed 'Dil Se'. Deepak Gupta, the poet of international repute hosted the 'Kavi Sammelan'. Praising the cover of the book, he said that the colour of heart is red, but author has designed it pink, because it is the colour of his wife's saree. This shows that he truly loves his wife. Reciting a poem on an alcoholic husband and his wife, he said:

"Khane-Peene main, main apnee patni ka saath is tarah nibhata hoon, Woh khana khatee hai, aur main 'pee ke' aata hoon.

Kaviytri Madhu Mohini commented on the attires and vulgar ways of TV and film heroines. She humorously said that, she has a lot of respect for these new 'divas' for the honor they have brought to the country. She recited the poem satiring the TV media:

"Man likhne ki chaah karta bahut hai, kintu likhne ke layak nahi kuch dikhta,
TV beti betiyon ke sang dekhna jo chanhoon, TV bhai-bahnon ke sang dekhna jo chanhoon,
TV parivaar ke sang dekhna jo chahoon, Dekhne ke layak nahin hai kuch dikhta.
Sabhyata aur sanskriti ki dhajjiyan uda rahee jo, lakshya ki chahn main charitra nahin dikhta.

And she dedicated these line especially for Rakshi Sawant and Mallika Sehrawat:

"Aisi Dropadi ka cheer kaise badhayenge krishna,
Jo dropadi ke angoon par cheer nahin dikhta."

Audience listening to Kavi Sammelan.
Other noted poets Kavi Mahendra Ajnabi, Kavi Chetan Anand also enthralled the audience.

After the release, journalists from UNI, Amar Ujala, Metro Now, Dainik Jagaran and Times Group interviewed the author and his wife Akanksha Bharadwaj.

/India PRwire/ - The move to extend opening hours at the branch library forms part of Clare County Library's five-year development plan, which includes the provision of a full time service that caters for the needs of the town and surrounding areas.

"Up until now, residents of the Miltown Malbay area have been served by a part-time service point", explained Mr. Noel Crowley, Clare County Librarian.

"One long-standing target of the library service has been to have a full-time branch library in every town with a population of over 1,000. This objective has largely been achieved in recent years. I have no doubt that the expansion of services in Miltown Malbay will be welcomed by the Branch members and will also serve to attract new members", added Mr. Crowley.

Meanwhile, Ms. Helen Flynn has taken over the running of the Miltown Malbay branch library. Ms. Flynn, who was recently promoted to the post of Senior Library Assistant, previously worked at Ennistymon library and at Kilrush library.

The origins of the library service in Miltown Malbay date back to 1995 when Clare County Library agreed to renovate the old woodwork room in the disused vocational school. The work was undertaken in co-operation with the local community and FÁS, and resulted in the provision of a modern, multi purpose community library. The library was entirely funded by Clare County Council resources, in co-operation with Clare V.E.C. and the Miltown Malbay Area Joint Social Employment Scheme.

The Dr. Patrick J. Hillery Public Library opened its doors to the public on April 6th 1995 and now has a book stock capacity of 12,000 books, while a children's section has been provided with over 4,000 books for every reading age and interest. Clare County Library's Irish Traditional Music Collection of tapes and CDs is also housed in the library.

The new opening hours are:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 1pm – 5.30pm and 6pm - 8pm
Wednesday: 10am – 1pm and 2pm - 5.30pm
Thursday: 1pm – 5.30pm and 6pm - 8pm
Friday: 10am – 1pm and 2pm - 5.30pm
Saturday: 10am – 2pm

For further information contact the Dr. Patrick J. Hillery Public Library, Ballard Road, Miltown Malbay at 065-7084822 or mailbox@clarelibrary.ie.

/India PRwire/ - Situated on the Mountshannon Road in the town, the modern and spacious building forms part of Clare County Library's long-standing target of providing a full-time branch library in every town with a population of over 1,000. Based on the 2006 Census records, the branch library will serve a population of over 6,000 in Scariff and its hinterland. Mayor of Clare Councillor Patricia McCarthy will official open the new facility on Monday 19th November at 11.30am.

According to Mr. Noel Crowley, Clare County Librarian, "We hope the new library will be central to the life of the local community and will become a cherished facility for the people of East Clare. It replaces the part-time service point, which previously served residents of the Scariff area. The branch library will share the new premises with offices of Clare County Council, which means that the building will be a ‘one-stop-shop' for the people of the Scariff area."

In addition to a stock of over 19,000 books, the new Scariff library will hold CDs and DVDs, daily newspapers, magazines, foreign language fiction, audio books and large print books. Facilities on offer will include free Internet and e-mail, a community notice board, photocopying, an Online Public Access Catalogue, and a Local Studies Reference and Research section.

Mr. Crowley explained, "Games for children, such as chess, draughts and jigsaws are available, while children's storytime and craft sessions will run throughout the year - all creating an atmosphere of fun and learning for the children of the area and ensuring that this library will be a great place to visit. It is envisaged that book clubs for adults and children will be set up in the near future. The building also houses an exhibition area and a community meeting room. It is certainly a library that has something for everyone!"

Meanwhile, the building has been designed and constructed with accessibility in mind.

"A variety of practical measures to facilitate this have been put in place. This includes provision of a platform lift and automated openers on sensors to entrance doors, as well as ramped external access and level access from the rear of the building. Contrasting colours in floor finishes and pedestrian routes make it easier for those with colour-blindness or other sight problems. Internal and external signage has been provided in accordance with the National Disability Authority guidelines", added Mr. Crowley.

Caroline Aherne, recently appointed Assistant Librarian at Scariff Library, remarked, "Remember - this is your library. Come and check it out. If you need further information please make contact by phoning 061-922893 or by emailing mailbox@clarelibrary.ie. Whether you want to borrow a book, read a newspaper, find information, use the internet…library staff will be glad to help."

The Scariff Library opening hours are Monday 10.00 - 1.00 and 2.00 to 5.30; Tuesday and Thursday 10.00 - 8.00; Wednesday and Friday 10.00 - 5.30; Saturday 10.00 - 2.00.

The story of library construction began in County Clare when the first custom-built library was opened in Ennis in 1975. It has had a remarkable effect on most of the libraries built in provincial towns since, and was a landmark in branch library development in Ireland.

The provision of purpose built service points continued apace: Ennistymon and Kilrush in 1981; Newmarket-on-Fergus and Shannon in1983; Kilkee (Sweeney Memorial) was taken over in 1985; Tulla Market House opened as a library in 1986; the Local Studies Centre in 1988; Corofin in 1992; Killaloe in 1994; the library Headquarters was renovated in 1994; Miltown Malbay opened in 1995; Lisdoonvarna in 1999 and Sixmilebridge in 2000. During this period also, part-time libraries were set up in Scariff in 1975, Sixmilebridge in 1981 and Kilmihil in 1990.

Cranny Virtual Public Library opened in 2003 as a pilot project for service delivery to rural communities. Kildysart Public Library at St. John Bosco's Community College, Kildysart, also opened in 2003.

For more on the Clare County Library service log on to www.clarelibrary.ie

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire

“Enhancing reputations–Increasing exposure–Increasing understanding”

Founded in 2006, Dunphy Public Relations is a communications group led by Mark Dunphy from County Clare.

/India PRwire/ - The story unfolds as a thrilling roller-coaster ride, pitted against time. The rails of the coaster are formed by the fragile labyrinth of Indian politics on one side and the treacherous world of Alternate Medicine on the other.

Undertaking the quest to find an elusive cure for the biggest tormentor of today – AIDS – is Anjali Srinath, a US-born Indian doctor and Prerna, the prime ministerial candidate of the Indian National Party.

The ride is made tougher by a trinity of unholy forces, constituted by the billion-dollar pharmaceutical industry and tentacles of unscrupulous gutter politics.

In the undercurrent of this rip-roaring chase however a quiet metamorphosis is taking place. Exposure to the misery of the real world makes the mind a Buddha that seeks the truth of its own mirage, be it of power, money or fame and realizes that it all is nothing but sand.

For the elite soul, who occasionally lifts his head from the worktable for a moment and asks himself, ‘What the hell am I doing with my life?’ – then this novel can be the inspiration that strives to prolong these moments of pondering about the futility of our mindless rat race in the pursuit of a mirage.

Source: Press release distribution via India PRwire
