Sterlite Optical Technologies Ltd., India’s leading global provider of Power Transmission Conductors, Optical Fibers and Telecommunication Cables announced that the its specialized power transmission conductors - ACSR ACO & ACSR 490/65 were tested for ‘Creep Test’ by SAG, Germany and the results indicate that these products can be used in transmission line networks for additional 10 years above the normal life time of the conductors, currently required by Power & Utility Incumbents.

Creep is the term used to describe the tendency of a material to move or to deform permanently to relieve stresses. Material deformation occurs as a result of long term exposure to levels of stress that are below the yield or ultimate strength of the material. Creep is more severe in materials that are subjected to heat for long periods and near melting point. The rate of this damage is a function of the material properties and the exposure time, exposure temperature and the applied load (stress).

The purpose of the Creep Test for Power Transmission Conductors is to compute Sag, Tensions for the overhead conductors and Conductor Lifetime for the designed sag and tension.
