Tweet-- Mercury Car Rentals Ltd (Avis India), one of India's largest and leading premium car rental services provider, has won the Second Prize in Category I for 'Tourist Transport Operator' for the year 2008 - 2009 at the National Tourism Awards ceremony. at New Delhi. The award conferred by Honorable Vice President, Shri M. Hamid Ansari comes to Avis India in recognition of unremitting commitment to excellence. Instituted by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the National Tourism Awards are the most coveted awards in the travel and tourism industry in India and are presented annually, in various categories. Also present at the occasion were Ms Kumari Selja, Honorable Minister for Tourism and Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and the Guest of Honour, Shri Sultan Ahmed, Honorable Minister of State for Tourism.
The Ministry of Tourism Awards recognize the best in the industry every year for their performances in their respective fields & also to encourage healthy competition with an aim to promote tourism. The selection of the awardees is made by committees constituted for the purpose and the decision of the Ministry of Tourism is final and binding. A due weightage has been given to the foreign exchange earnings this year. Speaking at the occasion Mr Sunil Gupta, CEO, Avis India, said, "I am truly honored to win this prestigious award.
