Hyderabad city is to have yet another radio taxi service — Orange Radio Cabs. It is formally inaugurated today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy here in city at Meekosam Board, Near NTR Gardens, Necklace Road.

Among others who graced the inaugural function include Sri Kanna Laxminarayana, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Sri P. Sudharshan Reddy, Sri. A. Indrakaran Reddy, MLAs; Sri B. Mohan Reddy, MLC and Sri Raymond Peter, Transport Commissioner, A.P.

Rules stipulate that radio cabs licence is issued only if the operator owns a minimum of 100 motor cabs. This new licensee i.e. Hyderabad-based Orange Radio Cabs offers a fleet of 100 brand new cars of the makes of Versa, Innova and Indigo Marina. All 1000 CC cars will become operational from today. These are the GPRS-enabled ‘Radio Cabs’. Unlike the regular taxi cabs, radio cabs are installed with alarm signals and special radio equipment to provide enough security to commuters. Equipped with electronic chips, radio cabs would be connected to a central server at the call centre and movement of the cabs would be monitored on a special screen through out the day irrespective of the route the vehicle operates on.

These air-conditioned metered taxis with a printing facility within the car are adhered strictly by Governments existing regulations. The antecedents of the drivers are verified by the police as per the government policy.

Orange Radio Cabs is the third agency to become operational in the city. Giving details Mr. M. Sunil Kumar, Managing Partner - Thirumala Cabs said they have been in the corporate car rental business for the past eight years, providing service to Software and Telecom companies. They currently have a fleet of 200 cars. They were the first to introduce metered taxis in the year 2003, he informed. Orange Radio Cabs offers more choice for the customer in terms of the type of vehicle available i.e. Versa, Innova and Indigo Marina.
