-- Safexpress Pvt. Ltd., India’s largest Supply Chain and Logistics Company, has established its ultra-modern Logistics Park in Kolkata today. Covering a massive area of 1,84,000 square feet, this high-tech Logistics Park will be providing its clients with cutting edge state-of-the-art trans-shipment and 3PL services.
The launch is in line with the company’s strategy of developing 32 ultra-modern Logistics Parks at key industrial hubs in India. The company has successfully launched three of its world-class Logistics Parks in Gurgaon, Nagpur and Ahmedabad last month.
Speaking on this occasion Mr. Vineet Kanaujia, GM – Marketing, Safexpress said, “There is a huge growth opportunity for the warehousing business in India. Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are one of the major driving forces for Warehousing business in India. A large number of upcoming SEZs have necessitated the development of Logistics Parks for the domestic market as well as for global trade.”
Proximity to the existing and proposed manufacturing units and SEZs, accessibility to consumer markets, good geographical location and infrastructural development are various parameters that makes Kolkata as one of the highest potential destination for the Indian Supply Chain and Logistics Industry.
Speaking about why the company has chosen Kolkata as a location for its Logistics Park, Mr. Kanaujia said, “Proximity to the textile and auto-component industry clusters and other manufacturing units has made Kolkata a major economic centre. Our Logistics Park is located on NH 2 which is well connected to different parts of the country.”
Talking about how Safexpress is driving the Warehousing Revolution in India, Mr. Kanaujia highlighted, “The demand for high-tech ultra-modern Warehouses will grow exponentially in coming years. With the phasing out of Central Sales Tax (CST) by 2010, Manufacturers will readily outsource their Warehousing requirements to the Third Party. This will help the Manufacturers to save costs and to focus on their core business. Having envisaged this huge potential for providing Warehousing support to customers, we have planned big ticket investments in Warehousing at key industrial hubs across the country.”
He further added, “We will be creating 5 million square feet of additional warehousing space across the country in the next couple of years, adding to our already existing warehousing space of 5 million square feet. Once ready, these Logistics Parks will totally redefine the way Supply Chain functions in our country today.”
Speaking about the Safexpress Logistics Park at Kolkata, Mr. Kanaujia said, “Our Logistics Park will be operational 24X7, 365 days in a year to provide ‘time-definite’ deliveries. Courtesy our seamless operations, we provide the fastest transit time for deliveries from Kolkata to over 560 cities across the country. We have a capability to deliver in 1.8 days from Kolkata by surface across India. Special initiatives have been taken by us to make our Logistics Park eco-friendly. For safer and smoother movement of goods within the Logistics Park, the company has installed high-tech equipment to ensure that the goods are handled very carefully.”
The vast space of Safexpress Logistics Park with dedicated bays and docks provides for an uninterrupted and unidirectional flow of inbound and outbound goods, enabling higher levels of efficiency and shorter turnaround times. The Logistics Park enables loading and unloading of over 75 vehicles simultaneously to ensure smooth and uninterrupted movement of goods.
Talking about the company’s expansion plan at the time of Economic Slowdown, Mr. Kanaujia said, “For the Indian Economy to bounce back swiftly from the present Economic slowdown, Supply Chain & Logistics industry has a pivotal role to play. Companies will need to either remodel or modify their Supply Chains in order to succeed in the present turbulent times. And for that, Companies will require Warehousing support from the top Supply Chain players like Safexpress.”
Mr. Kanaujia concluded by announcing that, “Safexpress is developing world-class Warehousing in the key cities. More than a dozen of our Logistics Parks are under various stages of development and would be ready within 2009.”
Rising investments in infrastructure and the Central Government’s decision to cut excise duty rates for manufacturing goods is boosting the demand for Warehousing business.
With phasing out of CST from next year, development of SEZs and FTWZs (Free Trade Warehousing Zones), growth in manufacturing and modernization of retailing, Warehousing will play an ever important role in the Indian Supply Chain Industry.
