Taiwan - One of the World's Largest Producers of Functional and Technical Textiles at Technotex 2014 in Mumbai

The 3rd edition of Technotex was successfully staged in Mumbai at the Bombay Exhibition Centre from March 20th to 22nd, 2014. Mrs. Zohra Chatterji, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles inaugurated the event and visited the Taiwan Pavilion, along with other VIPs, to welcome the exhibitors to the show. Other than Taiwan, the exhibition also featured international representations from China, Korea and UK. Technotex 2014 aimed to serve as a platform for technical textile entrepreneurs, importers, exporters, manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and service providers to interact and introduce products and services that would not only give a fillip to the rapidly growing domestic industry but also increase trade in this sector between India and other countries specializing in this sector, like Taiwan. The three day event saw interest from the trade and industry professionals, local and international individuals alike. Exhibitors included manufacturers and service providers showcasing their technical textiles products as individuals and pavilions such as the Taiwan Pavilion.

Technotex 2014 aimed to serve as a platform for technical textile entrepreneurs, importers, exporters, manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and service providers to interact and introduce products and services that would not only give a fillip to the rapidly growing domestic industry but also increase trade in this sector between India and other countries specialising in this sector, like Taiwan.

The three day event saw interest from the trade and industry professionals, local and international individuals alike. Exhibitors included manufacturers and service providers showcasing their technical textiles products as individuals and pavilions such as the Taiwan Pavilion.

Altogether, more than 7,000 trade-only visitors made their way to the Bombay Exhibition Centre for the 2014 edition of Technotex. The show also saw State Pavilions from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, etc. offering huge incentives for Indian as well as foreign investors to set-up technical textiles industries in India. It is observed that the Indian buyers and manufacturers of textiles were keen to venture into technical textiles as they see a huge demand over the next 10 years.

The Taiwan Pavilion at Technotex 2014 attracted the attention of over 1600 trade visitors from private as well as public sectors across India. Major buyers came in from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

At the same time, more than 150 pre-registered one-to-one business matching meetings were conducted during the exhibition by Taiwan Textile Federation for its exhibitors. The net result being that over US$ 120, 000 worth of orders were received by the Taiwanese companies exhibiting at the event. Exhibitors were extremely satisfied with the quality and quantity of buyers they got to interact and network at the event. Some of the exhibitors are already doing business with Indian buyers whereas some were showcasing their products to the Indian market for the 1st time.

Mr. Jeff Tsai of Namliong Entreprise Company Limited said, "This is the first time Namliong has participated in a focused trade show on technical textiles in India. We are happy to meet and discuss business opportunities with the buyers for our products as we see a huge potential in India. Although, we already have a few buyers from India, we are looking forward to further expand our network by appointing representatives and agents across India to further tap business opportunities in protective wear and safety products segments. Our goal is to double our supply in the Indian market in the next 2-3 years."

The buyers were happy to meet with new Taiwanese suppliers of technical textiles which are not readily available in the Indian market. The demand for technical textiles in India in growing sectors such as Protech, Meditech, Packtech and Sportech would see more business deals been worked out between Indian buyers and Taiwan suppliers in the coming years.

Mr. Amit Bachawat, CEO of Navkar Techtex Pvt Ltd - an importer and representative said, "Due to high demand for technical textiles in niche sectors like Protech, Meditech, Geotech, etc. Indian buyers are opening up to Taiwan for their innovative and high quality technical textile products which are consumed for domestic or export purpose. I am quite satisfied to meet and discuss business prospects with Taiwanese suppliers here at the exhibition. We expect to do good business (worth thousands of dollars) with them in the coming months."
