New York, New York, February 5, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- Hosted by India's Council for Leather Exports, The Indian Consulate and NML International Inc., twenty-three of India's premier leather apparel and accessory manufacturers took to Manhattan on January 18th and 19th to showcase their products at Know Leather/ India Now, a two-day event, held at The Westin New York in Times Square. The show was created as a platform for wholesalers, buyers and importers to meet manufacturers and exporters face-to-face. In addition to the show, the group toured top NYC retailers and had the opportunity to meet with executives at Barneys and Macy's.

With a diverse showing of fine finished products as well as a colorful array of samples culled from India's innovative tanning processes, show attendees experienced the superior quality leathers being manufactured for some of the worlds most well know designers and brands. The show, India's first foray into the New York fashion market, was attended by nearly 150 representatives from companies including Andrew Marc, Brooks Brothers, Chico's, Cole Haan, Docker's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Jessica Simpson, Jones New York, Levi's, Rebecca Minkoff, Guess, Norma Kamali, Dr. Jay's, Swank, G3, Rainforest, Wilson's, Sanyo, and Tumi. It was clear that the message from the show's travel-themed materials "India Has Arrived" - rang true.

The event kicked off with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and remarks from India's Consulate General Dr. A.M. Gondane. Festivities included a cocktail reception and fashion show where models sported the latest looks in leather from the shows exhibitors.

Jaggi Singh, President of NML International, a leather importer for over 20 years, said, "We were extremely pleased to introduce India's top leather manufacturers to key industry players here in New York. India's innovations and style surpassed buyer expectations, and many test orders have been taken. With India's rich resources, top-tier technology, superior quality standards and industrious work ethic, we are confident that India's emergent leather trade business will continue to experience great growth in the US market."
