Mumbai, Maharashtra, December 10, 2009 /India PRwire/ -- The "Nylon Chain Report: 2009" containing over 100 pages provides a comprehensive review of market trends, drivers, issues, and challenges. It is richly annotated with authoritative and unbiased objective description, and hard-to-find statistical facts. The report also provides unequivocal views on future potential while throwing light on the prevailing climate in key regional markets and projections upto 2014 for Nylon. Major investments and capacity shut down are captured extensively. Processes description, end use and derivatives along with the latest producer-wise capacity are added feature of this report. For the first time, this issue we have included nylon International Trade.

Global caprolactum production dwindled to a 6-year low of less than 4 million tons in 2008. Production has been growing at a slow pace for the last three years with 2008 posting a negative growth. Over the past 10 years, caprolactum output has risen by a modest 1.7% per annum against 1.1% rate of increase in consumption and similar rate in the capacity. Caprolactam demand has been significantly affected by the economic downturn, especially sales to the auto and textile industries. Sales dropped as much as 40% in the fourth quarter of 2008 due to rapidly falling feedstock prices and downstream destocking.

Current YnFx projection model predicts that nylon consumption would touch 4.70 million tons by 2014. As against this, the capacity will reach 5.9 million tons from the current 5.8 million tons. Thus, the current over capacity situation would recede over the next few years. The key drivers would be engineering plastics while textiles and industrial filament market would continue to decline. Engineering plastics main market will be its increasing use in automobile sector. Countries like China and almost all European countries have made it mandatory to install airbag in all future car production.
