Reliance Retail Employs Online-Offline Model to Widen Audience Reach

Reliance Retail will be integrated with Reliance Jio in order to expand its reach and create value-added offerings across India. LYF WIND 2 is the latest smart phone under Reliance Digital's LYF brand and is priced at Rs. 8,299.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, August 8, 2016 /India PRwire/ -- Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) aims to expand its retail arm in India. The strategy involves increasing its presence in towns with the help of a unique online-offline model. The company's annual report stated that Reliance Retail will undergo a multi-channel expansion plan, going beyond the current 500 towns in order to encompass the entire country.

In the previous financial year, the private conglomerate launched its fashion portal which offers curated fashion and lifestyle options. Additionally, it also launched to facilitate convenient selling of groceries digitally.

Market conditions

Sreedhar Prasad, Strategy and Operations Partner at KPMG India, explained how the next step for all retailers is to adopt omnichannel business models. By integrating two or more of their business arms to provide a seamless customer experience, the retailers would be able to offer value-added offerings which are mutually beneficial. This would also aid the retailers in cutting down costs related to servicing and standalone physical outlets. Over the last couple of years, many leading Indian companies have integrated their online-offline ventures and launched e-commerce portals.

Reliance Retail

Reliance Jio is RIL's digital arm which is expected to launch commercially later this year. The omnichannel model would incorporate Reliance Retail and Reliance Jio which would impact the company positively.

Reliance Retail's revenues showed a 22.5% growth during FY 2016 which garnered Rs. 21,612 crore in earnings. About 7% of RIL's overall revenue is sourced through its retail arm which recently added 624 new stores to its existing fleet, making the total run up to 3,383.

Reliance Jio

Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio, the world's largest start-up, has received an investment of over Rs. 1.5 million from RIL, its parent company. The main idea is to create a digital ecosystem with the help of Jio. This is currently being done by offering quality 4G-enabled cellular devices, media content, and premium Jio applications in addition to Jio 4G SIMs.

Reliance Digital's recently launched LYF WIND 2 joins the likes of LYF WIND 1, LYF WIND 5, LYF WIND 4, and LYF WIND 6. Retailing at Rs. 8,299, the 4G-enabled smart phone is equipped with LTE technology and offers a 6-inch display.

The phone is powered by a 1GHz MediaTek 6735M quad-core processor and offers users 2GB RAM and an inbuilt internal storage of 16GB. Users may further expand the memory up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card.

LYF WIND 2 has an 8MP rear camera and 1080p recording feature. The front camera is a 2MP one and boasts of features like face detection and a beauty mode. Its unique continuous shot feature allows individuals to click 99 photos at one go.
