Bengaluru, Karnataka, March 8, 2015 /India PRwire/ -- Sobha Limited organised an exclusive workshop for its women employees on the risks of breast cancer to mark the occasion of International Women's Day at the Sobha Corporate Office in Bengaluru.

The workshop was presided by Dr. Jayanti S Thumsi, a senior consultant & an eminent breast oncologist, BGS Global Hospitals. The workshop enlightened the women members on the serious risks of breast cancer and how a little care can help avoid it. Additionally, it also counselled them to undergo self examination once a month and yearly mammogram test that helps in early detection of the ailment.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. JC Sharma, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Sobha Limited, said, "We have always been in the forefront towards having awareness programmes for our women employees. It is imperative for them to know about this debilitating disease in today's life. This awareness program will help prevent Cancer and educate them to take timely precautions. Such workshops helps in knowledge sharing, thus, enthusing women to look after their health better."

Emphasising the need for attention on women's health, Dr. Jayanti S Thumsi said, "About one in 28 women develop breast cancer in India. It is an indication of adverse lifestyle patterns and lack of health awareness amongst women. Hence, such initiatives are the need of the hour. I appreciate Sobha Limited for giving utmost importance to the wellness of its women employees and to host this knowledge sharing workshop."

"Our overall wellness depicts the lifestyle choices we make every day. Therefore, it is vital to choose a right lifestyle to possess good health," Dr. Thumsi added.

At present, Dr. Thumsi is well-known for her breast cancer screening initiatives through CREST (Cancer Research Education Support Treatment) Foundation, a non-profit organisation which aims at decreasing the burden of cancer in India and its effects on patients. Dr Thumsi and CREST have conducted more than 150 awareness programmes, screening camps for early detection of breast cancer in Bengaluru and in various districts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, reaching out to more than 12,500 women so far.
