CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre is organizing the 4th edition of India’s flagship event on Green Buildings, this year at Bangalore during 12 - 15 Oct 2006, Mr ParsuRaman R, Chairman Indian Green Building Council & Vice Chairman of World Green Building Council said today at the press conference held at Bangalore.
World over, the construction sector is growing at a rapid pace. In India, the construction sector is growing at 13 % and real estate at a stunning 30 %. This would undoubtedly burden the already stressed urban infrastructure. If this kind of a growth rate is to be sustainable, there is an imminent need to look at construction which is environment-friendly.
From a humble beginning of 20,000 sq.ft of green footprint in the country in the year 2003, to a staggering 10 million sq.ft expected by end 2008, green buildings are well poised to reach scalar heights. Today a variety of green building projects are coming up in the country – residential complexes, exhibition centers, hospitals, educational institutions, laboratories, IT parks, airports, government buildings and corporate offices.
The projected growth potential for Green Buildings in India is estimated to be Rs. 2000 crores by the year 2008. This will open up a plethora of opportunities for several stakeholders like construction industry, architects, builders, material and equipment manufacturers etc. To further advance the promotion of Green Buildings in India and to attract more investments in this sector, CII–Godrej GBC is organising Green Building Congress, International conference & exhibition at Bangalore.
