Duravit growth continues

After the involuntary pause in 2009, Duravit was once again able to continue the growth course of previous years under the more stable worldwide economic conditions in 2010. With a few exceptions, the international markets outside the EU showed a considerable growth in sales. Market developments within the EU were stable for the most part, with Germany seeing an increase of 4 per cent. Overall, Group sales rose by 12.1 per cent to 328.2 million euros, a performance that was once again superior to that of its competitors

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, July 6, 2011 /India PRwire/ -- After the involuntary pause in 2009, Duravit was once again able to continue the growth course of previous years under the more stable worldwide economic conditions in 2010. With a few exceptions, the international markets outside the EU showed a considerable growth in sales. Market developments within the EU were stable for the most part, with Germany seeing an increase of 4 per cent. Overall, Group sales rose by 12.1 per cent to 328.2 million euros, a performance that was once again superior to that of its competitors.

Capital expenditures concentrated on the further optimisation of manufacturing costs, the continued strengthening of production safety, and targeted environmental measures. The development tempo also picked up, resulting in products such as the new SensoWash electronic shower-toilet seat, which could even open up new business opportunities for Duravit. The company was also able once again to complete a number of projects in other countries. After years of successful activity, the Polish market now has its own sales company, while a new sales organisation in the Persian Gulf was also started up in the form of Duravit Saudi Arabia LLC.

Duravit opened its tenth production facility to meet the needs of the Asian continent. It is located on a 170,000 square metre site in the state of Gujarat in India and will have an initial capacity of half a million large components.

The personnel structure was also further expanded and the Group now has 5,415 employees worldwide.

Key sales markets in 2010 remained Central Europe - in particular Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and France - as well as Egypt, the Middle East and increasingly some Asian countries. The majority of sales were in the euro region; within the Duravit Group, the international share of revenue totalled 77.1 per cent.

Overall, Duravit operates with twenty-nine affiliated companies and is present in over one hundred countries. Production takes place at several national and international locations: Hornberg, Schenkenzell and Meissen (Germany), Bischwiller (France), Cairo (Egypt), Istanbul (Turkey), Chongqing (China), Bizerte (Tunisia) and Tarapur (India).

The year 2010 was one of consolidation for Duravit. For this year it is hoped that the capital expenditures can be used profitably and production capacities fully exploited. The many new products will play an important role in this regard. In March, Duravit attended the ISH in Frankfurt, the world's largest sanitary fair, with a product offensive that impressively demonstrates the company's leading role in terms of design and innovation.

Future capital expenditures will focus on various technical upgrades and productivity improvements in all production companies and the optimisation of internal processes.

Sustainability is likely to be an even more important bathroom issue in the coming years, as consumers make their decisions from a more knowledgeable starting point. Apart from the durability of the product designs, sustainability also means that in developing new products Duravit has to take environmental considerations into account and identify areas where resources can be spared. CEO Franz Kook emphasises, however, that these considerations should in no way be allowed to interfere with quality and comfort. "Water that can be conveniently saved through economical WC flushing techniques can then be used with a good conscience for modern wellness products, like whirlpool tubs and steam showers , designed for personal wellbeing and health."
