Crippled 'Chicken' on Wheelchair tells BANGALOREANS, 'KFC TERRORISES Chickens'
Beleaguered 'Bird' Draws Attention to Millions of Chickens Killed Every Day as the World Mourns Victims of the 11 September Terrorist Attacks
Tweet-- Bangalore – Holding a banner which reads, "KFC: Stop Terrorising Chickens", a giant crippled "chicken" will cross the road in front of a Bangalore KFC on Wednesday, 10 September, to protest against the company's abusive treatment of chickens. Why Wednesday? Because it is the eve of the seventh anniversary of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the US, which resulted in thousands of deaths, and KFC terrorises and kills millions of chickens every day. The protest is the latest of more than 12,000 actions since 2003 by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India and its international affiliates aimed at urging people not to eat at KFC until the company implements basic animal welfare reforms:
Date: Wednesday, 10 September
Time: 1 pm sharp
Place: KFC, Brigade Road, Bangalore
KFC's suppliers pack chickens into filthy, extremely crowded warehouses. The birds are drugged and bred to grow so large that many become crippled from the weight of their massive upper bodies – many can't even walk because of leg deformities. Millions of birds are scalded to death in defeathering tanks, and video footage from an undercover investigation documented that workers at a slaughterhouse in the US kicked, threw and stamped on live birds. PETA India has written numerous letters to KFC executives about these issues, and KFC even ignored the advice of members of its own animal welfare advisory board, including five who have since resigned in frustration.
The growing list of celebrities who support the campaign against KFC includes actor Pamela Anderson, sitarist Anoushka Shankar, Nobel Peace Prize winner His Holiness The Dalai Lama and rock legend Sir Paul McCartney.
"KFC stands for 'Kentucky Fried Cruelty' in our book", says PETA'sCampaign Coordinator, Nikunj Sharma . "The carnage of the 11 September attacks stunned the world, and we want people to start thinking about the suffering and death which KFC causes for millions of chickens every single day of the year."
