Rtn. W. Anand, District Governor Elect of Rotary International District 3230 inducted the members into the newly formed Interact Club of Bethel 600042 in the Bethel Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Velachery, and installed its President and office bearers at a grand function held at the school at 8-30 a.m. on Tuesday, 1st July 2008.

Rtn. W. Anand was the Chief Guest. Rtn. Venkat Natarajan, Chairman, Interact, Rtn. S.V. Veerramani, the A.G., Rtn. Muralidhara Venkatesh, the Associate Chairman for Interact, Rtn. Thiagu, Rtn. K.R. Mukundhan, Rtn. A. Mohan, Rtn. K. Natarajan, Rtn. Sriram, Rtn. A.S. Prabakar and other Rotarians were present. Mr. Luke Juran, the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, sponsored by the Dubuque Rotary Club, Iowa, USA, was also a distinguished guest.

The Program started on time at 8.30 a.m. After the prayer by the students, the Interact Co-ordinator from the school welcomed the gathering. She also promised that they would do their best in projects with the help of the Rotary Club of Velachery.

Rtn. Murali Venkat, the Associate Chair- Interact, then took over as the M.C.

Rtn.Venkat Natarajan, Chairman-Interact, apprised the students of the interact movement and the purpose of it. He also explained the procedural aspects of regular meetings at the Club.

Student Shreya was installed as the President of the Interact Club of Bethel 600042, along with other office bearers, by DGE W.Anand. Then Shreya gave the President’s acceptance speech, in which she informed that they are ready for the tree plantation project.

Then the DGE Rtn. W. Anand and AG Rtn.S.V.Veerramani presided over the ceremony to unveil the “Four Way Test Board” in the school premises, with Rtn. Sriram, Director –Vocational Service of the Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery being present.

After the introduction of the Chief Guest by Rtn. K.Natarajan, DGE W.Anand gave an interesting speech. He began with the question “What are these 40 to 60 year old persons doing in the school premises?” and went on to brief the students about the Rotary and Interact movements. Then, Mr. Luke Juran, the Ambassadorial Scholar, sponsored by the Dubuque Rotary Club, Iowa, USA, gave his speech. He began with “Vanakkam” and talked about social issues such as child mortality. Rtn. Prabakar was later seen discussing international projects with Mr. Luke Juran.

Then Rtn Thiagu gave the book for minutes of meeting to student Aloes, the incoming Interact Secretary. The newly installed Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. The function ended with National Anthem.

Rtn.K. Natarajan, Director -Youth Service, Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery, informed that Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery was the first club to start a project in the Rotary District 3230 for the Rotary year 2008-09.
