8,500 government schoolchildren in Hyderabad participate in summer camps organised by Naandi
A month long summer camp programme for underprivileged schoolchildren concluded today.
-- “I truly appreciate Naandi’s efforts in the field of education, midday meal and health. I request all the parents present here today to send their children to school regularly. I am sure Naandi will help government schools regain the glory of erstwhile years”, Shri Mohd Ali Raffath, IAS, State Project Director, Rajiv Vidya Mission (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan), said during his speech at the valedictory function of the summer camps at Government High School, Dhoolpet, Hyderabad and Government Boys Primary School, Picket, Secunderabad.
Story reading, rhymes, spoken English, handwriting improvement, clay modelling, painting …a host of joyful learning activities were organised for children in 290 government schools that Naandi works in.
Summer camps were organised as part of Naandi’s Ensuring Children Learn programme. These camps were organised to keep the interest of coming back to school alive in all those children who usually after vacations do not rejoin schools.
“The summer camps and the display work by the children go a along way to prove that government schools are in no way less than any private school”, Shri Sayanna, MLA, Cantonment said, during his speech at the valedictory function of the summer camps at Government Boys Primary School, Picket, Secunderabad. More then 200 children, parents, community members, schoolteachers and head masters participated in the function and shared their thoughts on the benefits of the camp.
Impressed with the work Naandi is doing in government schools, Ms Sita, President, Rotary Club, Secunderabad presented a shield to Naandi at the function.
"Through these camps, we are attempting to transform government schools into joy-filled centres where children eagerly look forward to go everyday," Lalitha Naidu, Deputy General Manager, Ensuring Children Learn, Naandi Foundation.
About Ensuring Children Learn Programme:
In keeping with education right of the child, Naandi believes that every girl or boy enrolled in a government school should, by the end of every academic year, have grade specific competencies in language, mathematics and science across the curriculum. Children and their families and communities should be able to find value in the education process so lack of learning at school doesn't become a reason for poor parents who cannot afford private school education to take their children off government schools.
Therefore, developing innovative and creative curriculum to reinforce academic concepts to children in identified ‘hard spots’ of learning, enabling them to understand and practice these concepts during special classes held everyday before or after schools, and regularly assessing the learning levels of children has become part of our education programme “Ensuring Children Learn (ECL).”
Ensuring Children Learn is a public-private partnership programme between the Department of Education and Naandi Foundation and is currently, the programme is underway in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
