'Immigrant's Dream' by Anu Peshawaria an eye opener for families who fall prey to the dollar bait

Real life horror stories of torture of Indian brides by their NRI husbands & in-laws serves as a warning ...

New Delhi, Delhi, January 10, 2008 /India PRwire/ -- Anu Peshawaria, Immigration specialist in the US and the President and Founder, Immigration and Business Services Inc. and Founder, India Vision Foundation, USA-SevA Legal Aid Foundation has been providing help to Indian and other South Asian Community on issues pertaining to Indian law, Indian matrimonial and other immigration issues for many years now. Despite being in the US for decades now, Anu has extended her legal help and support to the Indian diaspora. Yet another step in helping tortured women, Anu has written her latest book – ‘Immigrant’s Dream’, focusing on issues related to NRI marriages.

On the occasion of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2008, Mr. Vayalar Ravi, Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs launched her book, ‘Immigrant’s Dream’, which addresses the problem of brides from India married to NRI husbands. The real life horror stories of these tortured women in the book can serve as warnings. Through real stories, this book takes a step forward in creating awareness about the dos and don’ts of NRI marriages. ‘Immigrant’s Dream’ educates on every mistake parents, who fall for the dollar bait, should avoid before getting their daughters married to NRI’s. This book is an extended help to many battered women to regain their legal rights and status.

Anu Peshawaria, Immigration specialist in the US and the President and Founder, Immigration and Business Services Inc. and Founder, India Vision Foundation, USA-SevA Legal Aid Foundation said, “The NRI population in the US is close to two million and the synergy between these two countries is very heartening. Many young, innocent brides are married to NRI’s each year and the number is growing rapidly. With this growth, there is also a steep rise in domestic violence, dowry issues, harassment, torture of these brides in US and other countries. Through my latest book, ‘Immigrant’s Dream’, I have addressed these problems through real life stories of women who have braved humiliation and fought for what is rightfully theirs. My endeavor has been to provide professional advice and guidance to both enlighten and empower these women to take control of their situation and find ways to deal with their immigration and adjustment problems. ‘Immigrant’s Dream’ delves into relevant laws and is an eye opener for all.”

Anu further added, “I felt the need for such a book so that women are cautioned and well educated about the horror stories, ill-treatment and cruelty by the NRI men who make tall promises before getting married.”

About SevA Legal Aid Foundation:

A young dynamic lawyer, Anu Peshawaria, started her career by addressing the cause of human rights in 1983. SevA Legal Aid is one of her most recent projects whose mission is to provide FREE legal advice to the Indian Community in the US on issues concerning Indian Law, Indian Matrimonial issues and Immigration problems.

Spouses of Indians who came to the US on a dependent status sometimes face socio economic/cultural/legal problems. SevA provides the professional advice and guidance to empower them through the help of highly qualified lawyers who sit on SevA's board. By helping out immigrants in need, SevA lives up to its motto of providing "compassionate justice". Anu devotes consistent and comprehensive support and legal guidance to immigrating people to the US to ensure ethical and fair practice, social justice, and protection of human and legal rights as people move through the immigration approval process and learn to acculturate to their new homeland. Anu provides free legal aid to many immigrants who do not have the financial resources to obtain legal counsel through regular channels. She does this in a reverent, compassionate way that makes each client feel respected, informed, and valued as a unique individual worthy of equity and consideration no matter what their financial or social status happens to be.

Before this in India she was a very well known defender of human rights.

Anu has represented hundreds of legal cases related to female empowerment, child and domestic abuse, matrimonial claims including dowry death, adultery and divorce from both in the USA and India. Anu dedicates an enormous amount of time and energy to successfully defend the familial, legal, and human rights of the women and children involved, often without pay. She excels in this legal context, since she is personally devoted to helping women and children to enjoy their right to freedom, independent decision-making, and protection from abuse and oppression. She also serves as a fine role model for other professionals. Her example calls for affirmative action, social justice, compassion, and a deep respect for the culture, life experience, and personal goals of each person, no matter how destitute or needy they might be. She is a shining example of the potential for a philanthropic spirit in legal counsel, which serves both the general public and to boost society's view of the profession itself. Each day, Anu lives and actively exhibits the idealistic foundational tenets of the law profession, and helps to dissuade the popular social stigma often targeted at and endured by lawyers around the world.
