Mr. R. K. Srivastava awarded the 'Life Time Achievement Award' for his contribution to water sector

Mr. R. K. Srivastava, Director, Kirloskar Brothers Limited, has been awarded the Life Time Achievement award for his contribution to the water sector and ultimately to the society. Hn'ble Minister Of State for Water Resource Shri Jai Prakash Yadav, in a ceremony held on 29th November 2007 in New Delhi, handed over the award organized by 'Water Digest' in association with UNESCO. The Awards were attended by World Bank, UNICEF, UNESCO, Central Water Commission & TERI apart from other industry sectors.

Mr. R. K. Srivastava, Director, Kirloskar Brothers Limited, has been awarded the Life Time Achievement award for his contribution to the water sector and ultimately to the society. A Post Graduate (M. Tech.-Mechanical) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in Heat and Power Group with specialization in Fluid Power (Fluid Mechanics & Fluid Machinery), Mr. R. K. Srivastava has used technological expertise and market understanding to strategise consistent-growth procedures. He has created in Kirloskar Brothers Limited a culture and environment of self-motivation, initiative. He has transformed KBL from a product company to ultimate product company i.e. ‘water’.

Highlights of his some Achievements:

  • Under his able guidance, KBL Projects & Engineered Pumps Unit increased from Rs. 25 million to Rs. 12000 million by improving the product base and market base and bringing in the concept of complete pumping system that includes mechanical, electrical, civil and instrumentation and moving towards water business EPC/BOOT etc.
  • He introduced high tech products such as Canned Motor Pumps (National Award winner, FICCI), Sodium Pumps and Concrete Volute Pumps for the first time in India.
  • Along with us, I am sure that you will also feel very proud to know that he is the main architect of the world’s largest pumping scheme that is being built in our own country by Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. KBL stood by the Gujarat Government to conceive the entire project in association with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) as a consultant. The team of KBL, NTPC, DCA and Gujarat Government worked to design the most optimised scheme under the leadership of Shree R.K.Srivastava. The earlier cost of the project was brought down to 25% of the overseas company’s proposal. Masterminding of world’s largest Pumping System for Sardar Sarovar Pumping Scheme (US $ 100 Million) and many other prestigious projects at national and international level.
  • Headed the team of KBL, which was awarded US patent for Siphon creation and breaking arrangement designed for Concrete volute and vertical turbine pumps for this project.
  • The siphon action creation and breaking arrangement used in the discharge ducting of concrete volute pumps installed at SSNNL Project has been selected as one of the innovative products based on its uniqueness and universal replicability and has been awarded with "National Award for Excellence in Energy Management" by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
  • Other innovative scheme is Godawari scheme designed by KBL under able leadership of Srivastava is designed to consume only 52 MW against 67 MW envisaged by international consultants and international competitors, thus saving 15 MW power and Rs.60 Crores in capital cost. Efficiency of Pumps is more than 92% and Efficiency of Motors is more than 97.6%
  • He plays an instrumental role in the educational field too. He started the ‘Pumps India Kirloskar Gold Medal Award’ awarded to mechanical engineers to encourage top rankers in the field to promote technological developments and innovative ideas. With his initiative and future vision KIRLOSKAR Brothers Limited (KBL) and College of Engineering Pune (COEP) has launched a six month specialised certificate course in turbo-machinery, being conducted at the mechanical engineering department of COEP.
  • Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President, released the book – Pumps – A Complete Reference authored by Mr. R. K. Srivastava on 4th March, 2003 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Shree R. K. Srivastava has also authored the book “Critical Aspects of Rotodynamics Pumps” which is well acclaimed by researchers and practicing engineers.
