The Midpros Research Survey was conducted by midcareers.com as part of a comprehensive program of activities to serve the interests of middle career professionals by providing strategies for success. One way midcareers.com pursues these goals is by gathering, researching and analyzing critical work aspects of these middle career professionals (midpros).

The Key Objectives of the Survey were

1. to validate the hypothesis that the current modes of placement were inadequate in fulfilling the placement needs of middle career professionals.

2. understand the perceived limitations in the two key modes of placements viz job sites and consultants.

3. understand the key aspects which a mid career professional wants to know while making a decision on a particular position.

4. get insights to their career profile – preferences, satisfaction, plans for the future, etc.

Key Findings from the Survey

1. 93% of the midpros agreed to the statement that “For middle level professionals like me, even when they are seeking a change, finding the right opening is a challenge".

2. 9% of the respondents were placed through job sites during their last job change.

3. Midpros perceived job websites/portals to be more suitable for junior level vacancies.

4. Midpros felt that placement consultants need to have and provide better clarityon the positions.

5. Role, work content, growth prospects and future plans of the company are factors which are given maximum importance when deciding on a position at the time of change in job.

6. There is a strong preference for independence in the work place while performing their jobs.

7. Only 9% of the respondents said they were very satisfied with their current job. Significant number of respondents, in excess of 50% rated "Satisfied to some extent” against 32% who rated “satisfied to a large extent”.

8. Only 5% of the respondents felt that 100% of their potential was being utilized in their current job. 51% felt that their potential was being used between 50% and 80% and a significant 23% felt their potential was used less than 50%.

Survey Conclusions

The Survey validated the assumption with which midcareers.com project was conceived. The supposition was that middle career professionals, compared to other job seekers found it very difficult in finding the right job at the right company even when they were seriously considering a job change. This was a hypothesis; we at midcareers.com had formed based on our experience in the placement services field. We concluded that the current two primary sources of placement i.e. job sites and placement consultants were not effective when it came to placement of middle level professionals.

We understand from the survey the key aspects a middle career professional looks at the time of his/her making a change in job. It is imperative that any model that seeks to service the placement needs of middle career professionals, incorporates assessment on these aspects into the placement process to make it effective and a meaningful experience for middle career professionals.

We at midcareers.com believe that there is scope for making significant improvement in the placement process of middle careerprofessionals working with the companies and the individuals on these processes based on the findings of this survey.
