Ramsarup, the country’s second largest player in steel wire market after TISCO, has received the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) clearance from UNFCCC for its 20 MW WHRB Captive Power Project at Kharagpur. As steel plants consume more energy and also emit more carbon emissions into the atmosphere, companies are making it a point to be more eco-friendly by going in for Waste Heat Recovery Plants and reducing the burden on dwindling energy reserves.

Mr. Ashish Jhunjhunwala, Managing Director of Ramsarup Industries said, “The go-ahead from UNFCCC comes as a positive sign in our endeavour to go green.”

The Ramsarup plant is slated to generate upto 20 MW of power hourly using waste gas emanating from MBF and DRI kilns which will help in reducing dependence on the power grid as well as making the plant eco-friendly and green.

The project would reduce annually 114,996 MT of CO2 that would have been otherwise emitted into the atmosphere. Apart from reduced carbon-dioxide emission, the plant would be saving substantial energy costs. The CDM benefits will be for an initial crediting period of 7 years with eligibility for further two renewals after that.

Total expected earning from CDM by selling CER would be approx. Rs. 69 crores over a period of the initial seven years.
