CMD, MIDHANI takes over as President, Indian Institute of Metals
Shri M Narayana Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd., Hyderabad has taken over as President, Indian Institute of Metals, a prestigious Institute.
Tweet-- Shri Narayana Rao is a Mechanical Engineer from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and Post-Graduate in Nuclear Science and Engineering and joined Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in 1977. Shri Narayana Rao has made several pioneering and innovative contributions during the last 3 decades in the manufacturing science and engineering strategic materials like zirconium alloys, titanium alloys, copper alloys, silver alloys and stainless steel for use in nuclear power reactors, defense, space and aerospace. In the year 2006, he was awarded with 'Metallurgist of the Year' by the Indian Institute of Metals for his contributions in the Metallurgical sciences. Shri Narayana Rao was also bestowed with Young Scientist Award in the year 1989 by Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences in the area of Nuclear Technology and Engineer of the Year Award by Institute of Engineers, India.
The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) was conceived as early as 1945. The scope of the institute includes activities encompassing the whole gamut of metallurgical processing, research and advancements. The activities include organizing National and International Technical Conferences and Programmes. The institute also conducts qualifying Examinations for equivalent to Engineering, Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering.
Every year on November 14, IIM celebrates National Metallurgists' Day (NMD), coinciding with the Birthday of our First Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. IIM celebrates NMD under the aegis of Ministry of Steel, Government of India to honour distinguished Metallurgists of India for their valuable contributions in the field of Metallurgy, Research & Industry, including Environmental issues.
Indian Institute of Metals is organizing National Metallurgists Day on November 14, 2011 followed by 3-day Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) at Hyderabad. About 400 delegates consisting of eminent Engineers and Scientists from various Metallurgical organizations like Nuclear Fuel Complex, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, SR Steel, Steel Authority of India Limited, etc. would be participating and presenting technical papers in the above NMD-ATM.
