Metal Giant Hindalco Renukoot and BITS Pilani Join hands for Work Integrated Learning BS Process Engineering program

For the year 2009, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science popularly known as BITS Pilani has been ranked among the top ranking universities along with IITs in various Magazine surveys such as India Today, Outlook, LiveMint etc..

Pilani, Rajasthan, September 17, 2009 /India PRwire/ -- BITS was initially accredited by NAAC with 5 Star rating and has recently been reaccredited by NAAC with 3.71 CGPA out of 4 and awarded VERY GOOD status. Hindalco had sponsored 74 employees from its Renusagar Power Plant in Jan 2007 for undergoing the Work Integrated Learning BS Power Engineering program. Final year students from BITS Pilani have also been carrying out live real life projects at Hindalco.

BITS Pilani with its rich experience of conducting Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) for the past three decades has been offering a 3 year BS Process Engineering program from 1992 to address the HRD needs of the Process Industry majors such as Grasim Nagda, Century Rayon Kalyan, Indogulf Fertilizers Jagdispur, Finolex Ratnagiri, CPCL Chennai, Indian Rayon Veraval, Digjam Wollen Mills Jamnagar, Saurashtra Chemicals Porbandar, CFCL Gadepan, HZL Udaipur and Tata Chemicals Babrala.

On 08th September 2009 BITS and Hindalco launched the BS Process Engineering program for a batch of 26 candidates sponsored by the Aluminium major. The colourful function held at Renukkot was graced by various Hindalco executives which included Mr D K Kohly COO, Mr Arun Kumar VP HR, Mr Ratan Somani Joint President (Smelter Plant), Mr Nirmalya Sen Joint President (Fabrication Plant), Mr Swapan Kumar Das General Manager (Training & Development).

BITS Pilani was represented by Prof BR Natarajan, Dean for the Work Integrated Learning Programmes who gave details about BITS Pilani as well the features of the BS Process Engineering program and reiterated that Process is just not only the engineered sequence of Physical, Chemical and Mechanical transformations that convert a readily available raw material to a useful product in the most economic fashion but also includes the human transformations which is so vital to achieve the stated goals.

He took the opportunity to give the quote of Dr Kumar Mangalam Birla Chancellor BITS Pilani and Chairman Aditya Birla Group “What is it that can empower our nation? The most obvious answer is education. Education that enhances livelihoods but also education that is value based. Education that gives roots and gives wings as well".

Dr Natarajan also pointed out that Hindalco COO Mr D K Kohly was himself an alumnus of the very first batch of work integrated learning ME (Collaborative) Industrial Production program of BITS Pilani launched in 1979 in partnership with Grasim Nagda and urged the candidates enrolling for the BS program to be not only dreamers but also performers and achievers.

COO Mr Kohly in his address shared his own experience as a work integrated learning student of BITS Pilani and also his role as a faculty for teaching various courses of the BITS collaboration at Nagda. Duly acknowledging his association with BITS for his career achievements, Mr Kohly was emphatic in stating that he was indeed Proud to be a BITSian and handed over the admit offer letters to each of the Hindalco employees enrolling for the program.

Mr S P Jose Assistant Training officer from Hindalco welcomed the gathering and also proposed the vote of thanks.

The launching of the BS Program by Hindalco Renukoot with BITS Pilani marks yet another milestone in Industry University collaborations.
