Nuclear Fuel Complex Celebrates National Safety Day

Speaking on this occasion Shri Jayaraj said that, NFC has accorded a prime position to safety in all its activities. The sophisticated technology in manufacturing fuel fabrication and zirconium alloy products was also extended to demonstrate good record of safety of operating personnel and the environment.

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, March 4, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- National Safety Day (NSD) Campaign spearheaded by the National Safety Council for commemorating its foundation day - 4th March is entering its 39th year. The Campaign to be celebrated over a week has grown into a major event for Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) covering entire gamut of Safety Engineering including Safety & Health (OSH) Campaign. NFC is celebrating the National Safety Day in tune with the objectives laid by the many regulatory agencies. The Campaign is aimed at renewing the commitment of employees to work safely and to ensure integration of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) in work culture and life style.

In this connection, a function was organized at Nuclear Fuel Complex by the Safety Engineering Division of NFC. Shri R N Jayaraj, Chief Executive, Nuclear Fuel Complex has attended the function as Chief Guest.

Speaking on this occasion Shri Jayaraj said that, NFC has accorded a prime position to safety in all its activities. The sophisticated technology in manufacturing fuel fabrication and zirconium alloy products was also extended to demonstrate good record of safety of operating personnel and the environment. Safety measures in all activities are in conformity with the norms stipulated by an independent regulatory body, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), which are also in line with the international standards. Specialist groups are involved in continuous monitoring and upgrading of systems based on our own experience and experience elsewhere. He also informed the gathering that the Nuclear power technology in India has reached a State of Maturity and NFC continues to take steps to furtherance Safety Culture in its operations and among employees.

Shri GVS Hemantha Rao, Dy. Chief Executive, while speaking on the occasion reiterated the need for strict safety compliance in all activities of NFC.

Shri R S Jha, DGM safety has welcomed the gathering and explained the importance of National Safety Day and informed to the audience that, there was overall improvement in the safety performance of NFC during the year. Adequate emphasis was laid upon safety of human resources and assets of the NFC along with production and productivity. Systematic approach to safety management was adopted through close monitoring of adherence to safety norms and procedures by the employees and contractors.

Commemorating the National Safety Day, NFC Safety Engineering Division has conducted various competitions on safety among various departments like essay writing, debate, quiz, slogan, poster painting etc. Prizes to the winners were distributed by Shri R N Jayaraj, Chief Executive. Representatives of various associations and employees attended the function in large number.
