Wallace Periera Memorial Foundation in an endeavor to recognize the talent in sand art, is organizing ‘Juhu Sand Art Competition 2008’ on Thursday , 1st May 2008. The venue of the competition is Juhu Beach, In front of Hotel Holiday Inn. The competition will take place between 8 to 11 in the morning. The 1st prize is Rs 2,000 and Wallace Periera Memorial Trophy and 2nd prize is Rs 1000 among other special prizes to be won. There is no entry fee to participate in the competition as the event is being organized for the sole purpose of promoting sand art in children and general public. Sand Art is a very satisfying and creative activity for the children who want to play artistically with sand.

Sand is one of the main attractions for children on a beach. Building mountains, castles, canals, funnels, sculputures and many structures is a favorite beach activity for young and old alike. Sand sculpturing has been around for decades and has become an art all over the world.

The competition is being organized third time in a row by Wallace Periera Memorial Foundation. The response was very enthusiastic last year by the participants. ‘ Juhu Sand Art Competition’ is organized in the memory of Late Wallace Periera, who was very fond of the art and who had always dreamed of organizing an event like this. The event will be organized every year. The initiative was taken up by Renuka Periera single handedly without any support and sponsorship.

There are many competitions all over the world for sand art but here in India, there is no event to recognize the potential of sand art. Wallace Periera is not for profit organization working for various social reforms and educating street children. The organization has been set up by Renuka Periera, wife of late Wallace Periera.
