Intel Outlines Steps to Catalyze the Indian Internet Economy
Technologies to connect the Indian population to 21st century opportunity showcased; Intel AppUp center launched in India
Tweet-- Intel India today outlined its vision for catalyzing the Indian Internet economy at an event held in New Delhi. Represented by Intel senior Vice President and General Manager, Sales & Marketing Group, Thomas M Kilroy and joined on-stage by leading industry representatives, Intel outlined steps necessary to connect more Indians to 21st century opportunities through technology.
At the event Intel announced the availability of the Intel® AppUpSM center in India; made announcements with Meru Cabs and Croma; and with its customers displayed over fifty devices powered by the latest Intel technologies.
- Intel's Software Push: Intel® AppUpSM center comes to India: Intel announced the launch of its Intel AppUp center beta to consumers in India. The Intel AppUp center is an online software application store that aggregates, categorizes and validates applications that consumers can shop, collect and install from one easy source. Intel AppUp center will come off beta very shortly. Retail giant Croma announced its intention for a co-branded affiliate store, powered by Intel AppUp center that will be launched by October this year in India. NASSCOM also announced that it will work with Intel on the Intel® Atom™ Developer Program to build momentum for developers in India starting September/October this year. Through this program, developers will get access to Intel services to validate appplications and software behind the scenes and joint marketing and revenue sharing opportunities through Intel AppUp center.
- Wide range of Intel® Atom™ Processor powered devices displayed: A wide range of Intel® Atom™ processor powered netbooks and tablets from Asus, Foxconn, Pegatron, Malata and CZc were displayed at the event. Several embedded Intel® Atom™ processor based devices were also showcased at the event. Intel believes that the Intel® Atom™ processor can deliver a seamless experience across a continuum of computing devices from entry level desktops to netbooks, smart TVs, tablets and embedded devices.
- Embedded Intel® Atom™ Processor powered in-car entertainment system from Meru Cabs announced: Gavin Dabreo, Vice President Meru Cabs joined Tom Kilroy on stage to launch the first ever Mobile Digital Signage (MDS) solution in partnership with iWave Systems Technologies Pvt. Ltd and Meru Cabs based on the embedded Intel® Atom™ processor. These screens in vehicles will allow advertisers to target viewers with dynamic content creating a new context for interactive, deeper and more intuitive interaction with brands. Meru Cabs is expected to launch this Intel based MDS system by the end of this year.
- Widespread support for Intel's vision: The industry representatives reinforced the need for the support of a robust ecosystem of OEMs, ODMs, content and software partners, backed by a robust policy framework and widespread availability for the Indian Internet economy to thrive. Companies like HCL, HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, Pegatron, Foxtron, Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices and several others were present to display their commitment to this shared vision.
