Acknowledging the utility that Internet brings to the day to day life, Dr Gulshan Rai, Director, CERT.in highlighted the fact that even though Internet could be considered as a catalyst and enabler to the society, it could also act as a threat to the social and national security.

New Delhi, Delhi, March 24, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- Acknowledging the utility that Internet brings to the day to day life, Dr Gulshan Rai, Director, CERT.in highlighted the fact that even though Internet could be considered as a catalyst and enabler to the society, it could also act as a threat to the social and national security. While chairing the inaugural panel discussion of conference on National Security & Digital Technology, Mr Rai stated, "Internet threat is always on evolving mode. Government is doing its bit in this direction by collaborating with the private sector. We need to set up a system, which should be followed in order to ensure the internet and digital security so that the trust on technology could be enhanced."

The daylong conference is organized by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in New Delhi, today.

Mr Manoj Joshi, Dy Editor, Mail Today, brought to the audiences notice the usage of "Steganography" amongst perpetrators of crimes against the Nation.

Mr K Santhanam brought forth the importance of Cryptology and Crypt analyses in making the communication more secure.

While safeguarding national and social security, it is of utmost importance to look at the humongous growth of information data. Vishal Dhupar Managing Director Symantec added, "Time has come, that we need to analyze the information. Since the whole information economy is depended on the value of information. It is critical to have clarity on the source of information and clarity on its authenticity."

"While coming across any security threat or data breach, the first line of action holds critical value. In order to ensure the quick response to cyber attacks a clear mechanism is required. There could be a self governance mechanism which could help us in countering the cyber attacks. Such preparedness is much needed in this hour." R Ramraj of ICANN mentioned this while emphasizing the time-criticality of reacting to any sudden cyber attack.

The conference also threw light on various issues and trends related to the current day scenario in which Internet and mobile communications, tools that are used by the criminals and perpetrators of crime against the nation, are also the tools used by the Govt and Security Agencies to apprehend and avert the crime. The need of the hour is perhaps to educate the masses of the use and abuse of the medium, and an increased effort on the part of the business to be involved in the technological and technical enhancement of the medium.
