Mumbai, Maharashtra, June 24, 2008 /India PRwire/ -- Dell announced the opening of the first Dell Multimedia Computer Center in India, for Literacy India, Bajgera Village, Gurgaon. The Dell Knowledge Center has been established at Literacy India, with an aim to introduce mature and advanced skills in computer education like multimedia, 3D imaging, sound and video editing, desktop publishing etc., to under-privileged children and youth of the society. The Dell Knowledge Center was inaugurated by Mr. Rakesh Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon and by Mr. Vivek Mathur, Site Director, Gurgaon, Dell International Services.

Set up with funds from the Dell Foundation, the Knowledge Center is operational with 20 state-of-the-art Dell Optiplex 330 desktop computers that will be equipped with pertinent software to teach advanced applications. Staring from the age of 13 years up to 19, children and the youth, avail an opportunity to move beyond basic computer education and explore the exciting world of advanced software applications. Dell has been instrumental in driving the digital revolution across the globe and through this initiative; Dell will help those who cannot experience this age under usual circumstances. Literacy India has already enrolled over 25 children for this program

Speaking at the launch of the Center, Mr. Vivek Mathur, Site Director, Gurgaon, Dell International Services, said, “We are very happy to provide a Dell Knowledge Centre for Literacy India. This project is yet another example of Dell’s commitment to providing advanced IT education for children from under-served sections. What has emerged in the most exemplary fashion is the desire to learn more, by the children at Literacy India. We hope to inculcate optimum knowledge to these children by providing this Centre.”

As per Capt. Indraani Singh founder and Managing trustee of Literacy India, “A large number of the children who are part of the Literacy India family, have been exposed to the streets and hence begin to show disinterest in learning and education. Literacy’s mission of providing quality education to these children has been furthered by Dell’ contribution of the knowledge center. The idea behind digital learning has been introduced for these children, for whom it becomes very stimulating; for e.g, Computers are like JAADU KA PITARA, . I am sure to bring about more results in these children, whether in terms of exploring their imagination through 3D animation or building their scientific temper in the Math’s/Science Lab.”

The new Dell Computer Center reaffirms Dell’s ongoing community outreach initiatives under h.u.g. program. h.u.g. stands for ‘Helping U Grow’ and it is Dell’s way of reaching out to the children of India. This program involves employee engagement and support for the communities through commitment of time, expertise and technology.
