An awareness camp about dangers of tobacco use, an resultant oral cancer, and a dental check up camp at the tribal area of Gholwad, Tal Dahanu, Dist Thane, Maharashtra on 7th March 2010

As an ongoing activity, Sangeeta Darvekar Charitable Trust is organizing an awareness camp at the tribal area of Gholwad, Taluka Dahanu, and District Thane. Since tobacco habit is rampant in this area, and mostly comprises of tobacco quid, the percentage of oral cancer cases are also high here. We are also engaged in oral cancer awareness via various means like having a documentary called 'Tobacco Kills', in Hindi which is available in VCD format and is freely duplicable, having a world famous website www.oralcancerawareness.org, and many more programs and this program is the extension of the same.
The program is scheduled on 7th of March 2010, from 10am to 1 pm and will be accompanied with a dental check up program and free distribution of toothpastes to the tribal's there.
This is a small effort of our NGO to fulfill our aim of 'No more deaths from Mouth Cancer' as this is one cancer which can be prevented by simple changes in lifestyle.
This camp also marks a beginning of free computer centre at the same place for the tribal kids, and also free English and Mathematics centre for the same.
