ORTHOFIT's principal, the USA based company Dr. Comfort, donates $1,000,000 in shoes to relief mission in Haiti

Dr. Comfort Diabetic Footwear and Accessories, which is represented by Orthofit in India, announced that it will be donating over $1,000,000 worth of shoes and inserts to survivors of the devastation in Haiti through the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, January 27, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- Last week's magnitude-7 earthquake in Haiti killed an estimated 200,000 people, injured another estimated 250,000, and left an estimated 1.5 million people homeless. The aftershocks still rumble in Haiti sending already devastated survivors fleeing into the streets. Dr. Comfort receives and supports many philanthropic requests for shoe donations, and donates in excess of $2,000,000 in shoes and inserts each year. Requests come in from a wide range of domestic and international organizations. Most are facilitated through the many dedicated Podiatrists and other podiatric professionals who work with Dr. Comfort. Through the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission (http://www.nwhcm.org), Dr. Comfort has found a way to donate over $1,000,000 worth of shoes and inserts to survivors of the devastation in Haiti.

Rickey Kanter, CEO, Dr. Comfort Shoes said, "Looking at the devastation caused by the quakes in Haiti, its hard to imagine being able to do anything that will help. But every donation and every act of charity however big or small helps at least one person deal with the horrific effects of this tragedy. Its only through a multitude of these acts from all of us that these people will be able to begin to deal with their losses and put their lives back together. Our prayers go out to those affected and we are grateful to be fortunate enough to do our small part to help."

The Dr. Comfort premium brand of shoes, socks and insoles from USA, was recently introduced in the Indian market by Orthofit, already known for its clinical and performance-oriented, sports medical and rehabilitation orthotic products and therapy. Dr. Comfort shoes and accessories are designed to protect feet from diabetic complications, manage various foot conditions, provide better stability and balance and aid in the treatment and care of conditions like Diabetes, Peripheral Neuropathy, Plantar Lesions, Infections, Ulceration, Bunions, Hammertoes, Corn & Calluses, and tired, aching feet. Although designed for diabetic and problematic feet, the shoes are also perfect for healthy feet, as they easily combine protection and comfort.

Company Profile:

Orthofit is one of the leaders in health management and performance enhancement in India, providing customers with products and services that work on three levels - prevention, cure and rehabilitation. It represents various reputed international companies like McDavid Knee Guard Inc., USA, VASYLI International, Australia and Dr. Comfort, USA to market their research-based, performance-oriented products. All the products offered are clinical in nature and designed for specific symptoms and applications.

Orthofit was founded in 1998-99 to address the urgent need in the market for research backed and performance oriented clinical braces, supports and orthotic footwear products. The objective then was to provide customers with products and services that work on three levels - prevention, cure and rehabilitation. So Orthofit started representing companies of international repute, bringing their cutting edge products to India. The intention was not to simply focus on the sale of products but rather to understand and evaluate the patients' problems and present them with the appropriate solution.

During the early stages of marketing the management realized that although the products are designed to perform, customers would not get optimum results unless accompanied by appropriate evaluation and education by medical practitioners. That is why Orthofit strategically decided that rather than directly selling products over the retail counter, they would always be dispensed in consultation with general physicians, physiotherapists, orthopedic doctors or healthcare professionals, after conducting a bio-mechanical evaluation of the customers, analyzing their lifestyle, identifying the appropriate product and educating the customer.

Over time, through technical workshops and seminars, Orthofit has established a sizable network of physiotherapists & healthcare professionals across India, who evaluate patients and take into account their daily activities, and prescribe products and/or therapy to achieve the best results at the earliest.

Over the years, Orthofit has carved a niche for itself in this segment by ensuring that the client always gets the best - in terms of products as well as services. Patients referred to Orthofit are consistently well looked after. Being in the business of health, Orthofit has always taken its corporate social responsibility very seriously and its hallmark has always been its open-minded and inclusive approach towards treatment of patients.

Orthofit has introduced several breakthrough health and fitness management products into the Indian market under its constantly growing umbrella and is constantly on the lookout for more such partnerships. Over the past few years, the company has also organized workshops and seminars for health-care professionals, conducted free check-ups and evaluations, and actively tried to raise awareness about fitness and health issues through articles in newspapers and magazines.

Conscientious business practices have earned Orthofit a stellar reputation, with a high number of customer referrals complimented by a negligible number of complaints and product returns. As the pioneer of health management and performance enhancement in India, Orthofit has always operated with one fundamental belief at heart:
"Our business policy is and will continue to be to supply customers with products & services that they need and not what we want to sell."
