The Congress brings together some of the world renowned experts in the fields of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (November 29th - December 3rd at Hotel Ashok, New Delhi)
Tweet-- New Delhi is hosting the prestigious 15th World Congress of International Confederation of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) which has returned to the country after 22 years. IPRAS, founded in 1955, provides an opportunity to promote plastic surgery both scientifically and clinically, by furthering education and friendship between physicians in all countries. The weeklong Congress was inaugurated by Prof. Kiran Walia, Honorable Health & Family Welfare Minister of Delhi, here today.
"We are glad to announce that this premier quadrennial scientific Congress is now scheduled to become a biennial event. This would definitely facilitate holding the World Congress in different continents, rotating it between the developed and the developing world, and provide opportunities for more interaction," says Dr. Rajeev B. Ahuja, Chairman of IPRAS 2009 & Head, Department of Plastic Surgery, Lok Nayak Hospital and Associated Maulana Azad Medical College.
The weeklong congress is bringing together some of the world renowned experts in the fields of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, and will provide a platform for knowledge sharing and scientific exchange. Some of the eminent speakers would include: Dr. Fu-Chan Wei, Taiwan (expert on Hand and microsurgery), Dr. Brian Kinney, USA (expert on anti-aging and minimal invasive rejuvenation procedures), Dr. Daniel Marchac, France (expert on Plastic Surgery on the face), Dr. Carlos Oscar Uebel, Brazil (specialist in Hair transplantation) and many more.
IPRAS 2009 also envisages introducing the unique Women for Women programme in India, a humanitarian programme that aims to help patients suffering from disfiguring by female surgeons. The programme also aims to help women suffering from the trauma of social exclusion that often occurs out of ethnic or social traditions or typical environmental conditions present in several countries. The Programme is currently being developed by the Secretary General of IPRAS, Marita Eisenmann-Klein, and Aesthetic Surgery Foundation, Constance Neuhann-Lorenz, MD.
"Often these patients may not present themselves to medical institutions for treatment due to local traditions and social structures. Also these treatments or therapies often demand lengthy and expensive procedures that cannot be easily provided everywhere. The intent of the Women for Women programme is that patients be treated in their own countries by international women surgeons in local hospitals and medical units in cooperation with local surgeons and medical staff and in close interaction with the national plastic surgical societies," says Dr Marita Eisenmann-Klein.
Some of the important highlights and keynote addresses during the weeklong Congress include the following:
a) History of Plastic Surgery by Dr. K.S. Shekhar
b) Frontiers between Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery by Dr. Daniel Marchac
c) 30 years of Replantation: What is left? By Dr. Edgar Biemer
