MMF launches Centre for Excellence in Urological Diseases at Ratna Memorial Hospital
On the eve of its 30th formation day the Pune based Maharashtra Medical Foundation will inaugurate it's full fledged Centre for Excellence in Urological Diseases at the Ratna Memorial Hospital. The centre would offer complete check up, diagnosis, treatment under one roof which probably would be one of its kind in and around Pune.

On the eve of its 30th formation day thePune based Maharashtra Medical Foundation will inaugurate it’s full fledged Centre for Excellence in Urological Diseases at the Ratna Memorial Hospital. The Centre will be inaugurated on April 6 on Gudi Padwa at the hands of Shri R. B. (alias) Bhausaheb Chitale, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Maharashtra Medical Foundation.
Speaking to reporters the Head of the Centre and Trustee of the Maharashtra Medical Foundation, Dr Shivdeo Bapat said that the centre would offer complete check up, diagnosis, treatment under one roof which probably would be one of its kind. The centre would be able to offer treatment to every individual – from a newly born to a 100 year old – male or female through the team of team of fully qualified and highly skilled renowned Urologists, who will offer advise & treatment to all the problems in Urological conditions Dr. Bapat added .
The centre also assumes importance with the permission from the Government of Maharashtra to start kidney transplant operations, Dr. Bapat informed The Centre for Excellence in Urology would cover various conditions in General Urology , Stone Diseases, Prostate Diseases , Pediatric urology, Congenital Diseases (due to birth defects), Oncology (Malignant diseases), Andrology (Male sexual problems & infertility), Reconstructive Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery and Transplant surgery
The centre will be equipped with sophisticated, state of the art equipment required in Urological practice, such as all types of endoscopes – rigid and flexible - , holmium laser, stone crushing equipment, and laparoscopic instruments etc some of which are available for service for the first time in Pune. The centre will also have a back up of an excellent Nephrology team with a full fledged dialysis unit and all the allied departments such as Imaging, pathology, laboratory, blood bank, intensive care unit, coronary care unit and full medical back up from other specialties.
He further added that the MMF was the first Institute in Pune to have been accepted as a training center for the Super Specialty of Urology by The National Board of the Examinations, Government of India. Many of our students who have passed out from our institute and are working as urologists not only in India but also in developed countries in the West would be visiting the centre. Maharashtra Medical Research Society (MMRS) another trust established by the Trustees of the MMF to encourage research in various medical fields has also been recognized as a research centre , he added .
Recently in consideration of the various research activities carried the Central Board of the Direct Taxes, Ministry of Finance has granted MMRS Income Tax Exemption under IT Section 35 (i) (ii). Under this section, person/s or a body who give donation to MMRS could claim exemption in their IT Return to the tune of 125%.
