As a step towards ushering in an era of lowest risk of person-to-person transmission of blood borne diseases in the health sector in this country, Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices (HMD) had launched its Kojak Selinge range of auto-disable syringes. HMD had introduced the safe injection technology in India under license from Star Syringes, UK.
Kojak was the first to replace HMD’s own brand Dispovan to become the choice of syringe for the Public Healthcare Sector. With the launch of Kojak HMD become the pioneering crusader for Injection Safety in India. “In the last 3 years we have made and sold over 250 million Kojak AD Syringes. This is far more than the DISPOVAN sold in its initial 3 years” Says Pardeep Sareen, Sr. General Manager Marketing.
AD Syringes which were initially introduced in the Immunization sector in India by UNICEF are now being used in the curative sector which accounts for over 80% of the Injections and KOJAK has led the way.
“The problem of syringe reuse and disease spread like HIV and AIDS and Hepatitis B from unsafe injections has haunted the developing world. There was a need but no demand which we had to help create. KOJAK become the first AD Syringe in Curative sector to get WHO PQS approval and is a key component of the Making Medical Injection Safer Projects being run by USAID/CDC under the US Government PEPFAR multiprong initiative against HIV/AIDS in 10 countries in Africa and Caribbean. The poorest regions with deplorable public healthcare systems needs this technology most. Riding on the successful usage of KOJAK and other AD/Reuse Preventive Syringes in the MMIS project, countries like Uganda have banned further import of standard disposable syringe and Nigeria announced similarly a two year limit for phasing out standard disposable syringes in public and private health care sector” says Rajiv Nath, Jt. Managing Director.
To address the unavailability, un-affordability issues raised by sceptics, HMD now proudly announces the growth of AD Syringe Production and having crossed 250 million pcs sales Mile Stone. This is a laudable step of HMD towards promotion of Safe Injection Practices in India and Abroad.
