Memphis-based The West Clinic and Singapore’s Excellence Healthcare announced today the opening of a new international cancer treatment center in Singapore. The West Clinic Excellence Cancer Center aims to provide world class US-based cancer treatment and management to patients in Southeast Asia by US oncologists and oncology nurses.

The West Clinic Excellence Cancer Center is the first West Clinic center outside of North America. It houses state-of-the-art imaging technologies including Positron Emission Tomography and Computer Tomography (PET/CT) scans.

Helming the new Center is its Medical Director Dr. Steven Tucker, a leading medical oncologist who has relocated from Los Angeles to Singapore. Dr. Tucker is widely recognized for his work in prostate cancer, being the former Director of the Prostate & Genitourinary Oncology Program at The Angeles Clinic & Research Institute in Santa Monica, California. Although his personal area of special interest is prostate cancer, he is also well versed in the treatment of all cancers. He previously served as an Attending Physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Dr Tucker asserts: “Singapore has demonstrated a strong commitment to deliver outstanding medical care and promote health and wellness. Through this joint venture with Excellence Healthcare, we can finally bring The West Clinic’s philosophy of community-based oncology to Singapore, now more conveniently located all under one roof, and closer to patients in the region.”

Also based full-time in Singapore is the Center’s Director of Oncology Nursing and Clinic Operations, Nancy Bailey. Ms Bailey is the former Director of Research at The West Clinic (US) and an oncology nurse practitioner.

The West Clinic Excellence Cancer Center will be the first cancer center outside North America to participate in a network of oncology centers through the Accelerated Community Oncology Research Network (ACORN), a US-based organization representing over 150 oncology investigators working on a broad range of clinical trials for most major cancer types. Patients of the Center will have the opportunity to learn about trials relevant to their conditions and will be given information and counseling if interested in participating.
