ICSI-WIRC organised seminar on Accessing International Capital Markets

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) - Western India Regional Council (WIRC) jointly with ICSI - Centre for Corporate Research and Training (CCRT) organized a Full Day Seminar on "Accessing International Capital Markets - A Discussion on ADRs/ GDRs/ FCCBs/ FCEBs, etc." on May 24, 2008 at Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Mumbai.
The Faculty for conducting the seminar (scheduled May 24) on "Accessing International Capital Markets: A Discussion on ADRs/ GDRs/ FCCBs/ FCEBs" comprised an illustrious gathering of luminaries from the business including: Mr. Aditya Gaiha, Deputy General Manager, FED, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, Mr. J.C. Bham, Company Secretary, Tata Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., Mumbai, Mr. Sanjiv Bhatia, Senior Vice President, Issuer Services – Global Transaction Services, Citibank, Mumbai, and Mr. Greg Hughes, Associate Director, Transaction Services, KPMG, Mumbai. The topics to be covered included: Industry Perspective, Regulatory Perspective, Depository Perspective and Financial Perspective & Overseas Listing Requirements.
Mr. Mahavir Lunawat, Chairman of ICSI-WIRC, said, "The Institute of Company Secretaries Western India Regional Office has lined up a series of programmes on accessing the capital markets in India and abroad. We have also roped in the support of some of the brightest brains in the business to interact with the participants. We believe that these initiatives will go a long way in developing greater understanding of the complex capital markets."
Shri Arun Nanda a Fellow Member of ICSI and Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., the Chief Guest on this occasion was felicitated on his being conferred as the award of Chevallier de la Legion d' Honneur by the President of the French Republic, Mr. Nicholas SARKOZY.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Arun Nanda thanked the ICSI for having chosen to felicitate him and stated that this award was actually on behalf of so many of his colleagues and associates. Shri Nanda also in a very eloquent way gave his Mantras for success viz., Honesty of purpose, Hardwork and Continuous learning. Earlier, Shri Mahavir Lunawat, Chairman, Professional Development Committee of WIRC introduced the speakers and presented the theme of the programme. Shri Lunawat briefed the participants about various initiatives taken by the institute both at Central and Regional Level. Interacting with media Shri Lunawat and Shri Ananthasubramanian, Chairman, ICSI-CCRT and Central Council Member, ICSI shared the new initiatives and measures being explored by the profession. Then the Research background papers were released by the Chief Guest and distributed to all participants. Shri J. C. Bham, Company Secretary, Tata Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., deliberated on the technical aspects of the subject. Shri Ananthasubramanian proposed the vote of thanks.
The ICSI a premier National professional distance education body, established by an Act of Parliament (Company Secretaries Act, 1980) and imparts compulsory Postal Tuition (by correspondence) along with provision for optional oral coaching classes. Admission to the CS course is open throughout the year. After qualifying the Executive and Professional Examination students are required to undergo Practical and Modular Training to become qualified Company Secretaries.
