Satya Paul and Deepika Gehani, have over the years associated with Pratham - a non-profit organization that has raised millions of dollars for literacy programs across the world by organizing various fundraisers. Pratham will use the proceeds from these evenings in various literacy programs for unprivileged children in India.

The guests of the evening included famous Indian comedian Dan Nainan, Bollywood actor Rahul Bose and popular Indian television actor Simone Singh as the emcee for the evening along with Sanjay Kapoor, MD Genesis Colors.

According to Mr. Sanjay Kapoor on Genesis Colors association with Pratham he says “We have been associated with Pratham for the last 4 years because of the work they do for children in India. Our association with Pratham is our way of giving back to the society and helping those who are less privileged.”

Super Models Saira Mohan, Sindhura Gadde, Ms. India Universe 2008 Simran Kaur Mundi and Miss India 2007 Sarah Jane Dias were among the top models showcasing the collection.

While Satya Paul showcased ‘Inspiration – III’, a collection inspired by contemporary art, designer Deepika Gehani’s collection ‘Enchanted Princess’ is created and designed for a princess whose enchanted life takes her to a new role as a queen.

For Puneet Nanda, Designer, Satya Paul, this collection, inspired by contemporary art is one among the many steps to bring art closer to real life. The collection has three parts one of which has creations inspired by a spanish painter Pablo Picasso who was one of the founders of the cubist movement. Similar to his paintings, the Satya Paul saris in this collection depict the three dimensional forms into flat areas of pattern and color, overlapping and inter- twining so that shapes and parts are seen from the front and back at the same time.

The second part of the collection has creations inspired by Rene Magritte, a Belgian surrealist artist, well known for a number of witty and amusing paintings. The Satya Paul creations inspired by René Magritte display a juxtaposition of ordinary objects in an unusual context, giving new meanings to familiar things. For instance, by proclaiming that the rose on the sari is not a rose! '

The third part is inspired by the Pop Art Movement of 1950s. Puneet, through this collection, has expressed various moods and images of everyday life in the form of contemporary fashion. The collection includes unconventional designs that bend all rules associated with saris and reduces the age of a sari by over a generation! For instance, there are hearts printed aesthetically over a dress representing the emotion of love. There is vivid use of popular brightly colored pop graphics, multi colored face prints of celebrities and brush strokes in some of the creations.

While the “Road Mania” sari depicts everyday scenes including the madness of the Indian auto-driver and the Indian traffic scenario; the “Film Strip” sari is one with an actual 70mm filmstrip digitally printed on it, representing our love for Bollywood.

The “Ding Bats” sari, embellished with items such as safety pins, hooks and eyes, steel buttons and silver foils representing computer fonts is one of a kind. The multi colored flowers sari and the abstract print sari in psychedelic colors are for the little more conservative muses of Satya Paul. Barcodes, money, lips and even Bollywood icons are among the few subjects that are a part of Puneet’s palette in this collection.

“It is our tribute to these great works of art by the studio’s rendition of these into innovative artists’ work through interplay of colors, balanced by intricate embroideries and materials.” Puneet Nanda, Design Head, Satya Paul.

Deepika Gehani’s collection ‘Enchanted Princess’ is high on ornamentation with the use of ancient techniques of kasyab, dabka and zardozi embellishments. Deepika while designing has kept in mind the traditional Indian aesthetics and all her creations in this collection make the wearer acquire a look of a glamorous and royal princess. The collection comprises of saris, lehengas and anarkalis in vibrant jewel tones of ruby, amethyst and emerald.

“Each outfit in this collection is crafted to perfection and truly compliments the royal spirit of a princess,” affirms Designer Deepika Gehani.
