Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, and Hans-Martin Rüter, CEO and founder of Conergy, officially opened the new Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Singapore today during a ceremony attended by numerous guests from industry and government. Mr Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board, said, "Congratulations to Conergy on the official opening of its Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Singapore. As a leading renewable energy company, Conergy's decision to use Singapore as its strategic nerve centre to grow its business in the Asia-Pacific is a major boost to our efforts to develop Singapore as a major hub for the alternative energy industry. With our strategic location, multi-disciplinary research competence, excellent supporting capabilities and world class Intellectual Property protection regime, renewable energy leaders like Conergy are able to develop their technologies and solutions and serve the Asia-Pacific markets from Singapore with ease."
Primary energy consumption in Singapore and in other Asian countries is rising annually by more than 3.5% due to the economic upswing and population growth in Asian nations. The limited supply of fossil fuels is becoming ever scarcer and hence more expensive. Renewable energies are poised to play an increasingly important role in meeting the world's energy needs in the near future. The Conergy Group is making an important contribution by preparing the foundation for a future where energy consumption is based on a clean and sustainable mixture of sources. "Thanks to its economically strategic location, its friendly business environment, political stability and first-class infrastructure, Singapore serves as an excellent operational hub for our Asia-Pacific operations. By 2008 the company expects to employ more than 300 people in the region across areas including sales, engineering, marketing, and central services positions", said Hans-Martin Rüter.
With a market growth rate of more than 30 percent annually, the Asian markets for renewable energy rank amongst the most promising in the world. Conergy's existing business operations in Asia already contribute substantially to the company's expected growth of more than 50 percent in 2006. With over 30 percent global market share, Conergy is currently the leading supplier of complete tailor-made solar systems in Korea. Experienced solar experts of Conergy's subsidiary SunTechnics recently realised, with proven German engineering know-how, the largest solar project to date in Korea.
"We already enjoy close proximity to the customer as we are represented in 22 countries on five continents. Our worldwide success is based on our ability to listen to the customers' needs and develop exactly those solutions that optimally satisfy their requirements. This high level of customer orientation, along with our proven engineering know-how, strong brands and an entrepreneurial organisation gives us the decisive competitive edge, allowing us to achieve above-average growth in Europe and Asia.", explains Hans-Martin Rüter.
Since the beginning of the year, Conergy has set up eleven new distribution outlets and acquired eight companies across the world to look after its customers' needs for energy, heat and cooling from the sun. The Conergy Group is also a leading supplier in other fast growing fields of renewable energies, such as solar hybrid systems (combining a mixture of clean energy sources into one solution), solar heating, solar thermal power plants, bio and wind energy. In India, for example, Conergy's subsidiary SunTechnics works on implementing solar hybrid systems in 25 rural villages providing environmentally friendly power from solar, wind and bio energy in remote areas. In several countries such as Spain, North Africa, Turkey and Australia, Conergy is working on different development stages of solar thermal power projects. Worldwide, one out of ten solar systems is planned and realised by Conergy engineers.
