Foundation Stone of Jaypee's Municipal Solid Waste Processing Plant laid

In a public-private partnership venture between the Municipal Corporation of UT Chandigarh, and the Jaypee Group of New Delhi, a major municipal solid waste processing plant is being set up in the city's outskirt at a cost of Rs.23 crore. The waste so treated at the plant shall be converted into alternate fuel pallets for use in the Jaypee Group's cement plant in Himachal Pradesh

Chandigarh, Ut, February 22, 2006 /India PRwire/ -- General (retd) S.F.Rodrigues, the Administrator Union Territory, Chandigarh and Governor of Panjab laid the foundation stone of the Jaypee Group's municipal solid waste processing plant in Dadu Majra here today.

An implementation agreement was signed between the Municipal Corporation Commisioner Mr. P.S. Aujla, and Mr. Rajiv Gaur, President of Delhi-based Jaypee Group, on 30 th December 2005, for providing environmental friendly solution for treatment of the municipal solid waste (MSW).

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has granted possession of 10 acres of land in Dadu Majra for installation of the plant in a time bound manner.

Mr. Rajiv Gaur indicated that capital investment for this unique project would be Rs.23 Crores and it will be commissioned within 12 months, for which Andhra Pradesh Technology Development and Promotion Centre (APTDC), promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry have been retained as the Technology Consultant.

Mr. Gaur commended the public-private initiative of MCC Commissioner Mr. P.S. Aujla, for keeping the city's environment clean and effectively managing the city's 350 metric tonnes of garbage produced daily, while the proposed project would have capacity to process approx. 600 tonnes of garbage on daily basis

The plant is being set up for processing of city's garbage and converting into useful non conventional fuel proposed to be used in captive thermal power plant and can also be used as an alternative fuel for cement manufacturing facilities of Jaypee Group.

The state-of-the-art European technology customized to Indian MSW (of high moisture content and varying calorific value) involves conversion of waste into densely packed fluff/pallets free from any harmful bye-products and effluents.
