Notes to Editor

Bombay Elektrik Projekt is a pioneering arts & culture enterprise intent on changing the nightlife scene across the country, one city at a time. From local and international DJ gigs to live bands, poetry slams to short film screenings, stand-up comedy to world cinema, the collective has regularly introduced unique concepts and cutting-edge experiences catering to the needs of the audience, the venue and the artists themselves.

Bombay Elektrik Projekt reaches out to venue owners and promoters by programming the music at clubs and bars ('club curators' is their fancied phrase): they instigate change by urging venues to consider unique concepts as well as position and brand each bar differently by recruiting the right artists. They believe that these differentiators will help any property get ahead in the nightlife business as well as make a name on the arts & culture scene.

Their impact on audiences across cities has translated into fresh experiences each time: Nights like Audio Kanvas, where musicians jam while an artist paints live to the music; Talking about Old Records, where participants dig out favourite old records and share stories about them and Show & Tell (AV with Gravy), where travellers and locals meet to trade stories are just some of the stuff that separates their work from all the mundane stuff out there.

This, in addition to executing concept-based DJ and band nights at bars and clubs across the country featuring some of the country's leading talent like Shaa'ir and Func, MIDIval Punditz, DJ Nasha, Bhavishyavani Future Soundz and the like. Their work is equally partial towards more underground practitioner like DJ Arnold (a gem of a Mumbai DJ with more than 12 international releases); DJ Russell (scored one of the biggest international house music singles releases with Juno records this year) and DJ Murthy (one of the pioneers of the house music scene in Hyderabad for over a decade now), among several others.

Their work hasn't gone unnoticed. Bombay Elektrik Projekt programmes music at WINK, the award-winning bar at the Taj President; at TEASE, the bar at the Taj Vivanta at Panjim and Kir, a brand-new club on Link Road in Andheri (West). They also have long-standing partnerships with brands like UTV World Movies, Mocha (from Impressario) and iStore by Reliance Digital.

Since December last year, the collective has introduced over 20 successful concept-based nights, promoted more than 100 artists in 10 cities all over India, and hosted over 180 events (that's one every three days). More importantly, they are heavily involved in grassroots activities like organising hands-on workshops on music, film, poetry and art in colleges across Mumbai. They also partner with youth-based college festivals like Malhar at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai; the youth lead festival organised to increase awareness of the elections in Bandra and feature at cultural events like the Kala Ghoda and Celebrate Bandra festivals.

The founding partners of the Bombay Elektrik Projekt include: Pramod Sippy, a cutting-edge house music DJ who has gigged across the country for 12 years, Sudeip Nair, an IHM Aurangabad graduate who set up concept-based restaurants across the country and Kenneth Lobo, a journalist who has written extensively about the arts and culture scene for leading dailies and magazines.
