-- On the eve of the country's 63rd year of being Independent, GVK one- Hyderabad's 7.5 lakh sq.ft mall organized a special 'Sing your patriotism out!' karaoke for its visitors.
Patriotism and music have always shared a camaraderie in the Indian freedom struggle and hence the country today has a rich heritage of a varied collection of patriotic songs. This activity was initiated in order to bring out the essence and re-iterate the importance of showing one's patriotism through participation in various opportunities and to keep the spirit of Independence Day alive no matter how young or old one is.
A strict code of 'patriotic songs only' was followed by participants and some of the songs that were sure favourites were "Maa tujhe salaam" (A.R.Rehmaan), "Chak de", "Jai ho" soundtrack from Slum Dog Millionaire, the golden favourite "Vandematram" by Lata Mangeshkar. Old but inspiring and unforgettable tracks like "Aapni aazaadi ko hum hagiiz mita sakte nahin", "Kar chale hum fida, jaano tan saathiyon" also stood as favourites amongst many participants.
Commenting on this initiative Mr. Naiju Thomas, General Manager-GVK, said, "In recent times, celebrating Independence Day is more or less confined to a holiday or hoisting the national flag. The spirit of appreciating the occasion has certainly been on a dwindle. Given such a scenario, GVK one has taken this initiative to reach out to citizens in Hyderabad through the mall by initiating events such as this which will encourage people to participate and give them a platform to learn something about the occasion in a very creative ambience. We hope to continue hosting such events which will give us an opportunity of reaching out to our patrons through innovative yet educative material"
Caricature and tattoo artists were constantly engaged with visitors happily availing the services of the artists that came complimentary from the mall for all its patrons.
On 15th of August 2010, GVK one will also be playing host to an evening called 'Little Freedom Fighters' which will see children from 5 to 10 years of age walking the ramp dressed as their favourite freedom fighter. GVK one invites citizens in Hyderabad to visit the mall and lend support to these young 'freedom fighters'
