IBN-Lokmat presents Great Bhet with social activist Laxmi Tripathi
IBN-Lokmat brings to its viewers an exclusive Great Bhet with Laxmi, the multifaceted persona of the third gender community. This 30-year-old Thane resident stands out for her great attitude and willingness to fight for the rights of her community. Laxmi is an Arts graduate from Mithibai College and a postgraduate in Bharatnatyam. As an activist she has constantly worked on creating awareness about AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Laxmi represented India in the United Nations AIDS conference and interacted with a number of ambassadors, diplomats, world leaders and social activists about the rights of the community globally.
Laxmi has accepted the challenge to fight for the rights and respect of transgenders around the globe. She is the president of Dai Welfare Society, which is first registered NGO for Eunuchs in South Asia. She added Astitva, another NGO to her disposal and this one has helped solve a lot of issues of human rights and AIDS awareness. This NGO was at the vanguard of the protest to shut down dance bars. A documentary on her life has screened at the Mumbai festival and television channels.
