Mumbai, Maharashtra, April 27, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- Bollywood Star Abhay Deol is now the official Brand Ambassador of The Climate Project - India. He came on board with only one condition - he would practice what he preached. Fine by us! It is always good to have another real helping hand.

So last week, we all huddled up at Abhay's residence and came up with a plan of action, a list of to-do's that Abhay will be implementing in his day-to-day life and in the process transform himself from a reel life to a real life Hero, who saves the Planet and saves the day.

Abhay's green journey has already begun as he got his first piece of action in his kitchen, his garbage bin. Abhay now has two separate bins of garbage - one for dry and other for wet waste.

Everyday garbage is collected from our homes and it makes way to dumping grounds where rag pickers separate it, most of which is already contaminated by virtue of having been dumped together. India may have a high recycling rate, but it's not done in the most humane way.

By separating garbage in our home we can convert wet waste like vegetable peels, leftover food, etc, that normally contaminates recyclable waste, into compost and use it as fertilizer for our plants. Our dry recyclable waste can then be sold directly to local radhiwalas or rag pickers.

Speaking about this initiative, Abhay exclaimed "Every day we unconsciously add to the rising concern of Global Warming. I feel very privileged to be associated with 'The Climate Project - India' wherein I can make a conscious effort in curbing this global threat that has left us no escape but to make a call of action!"

This is only the beginning folks. Abhay is with team The Climate Project -India for the long haul. Not only Abhay, but also we have Imran Khan join him on this endeavour of The Climate Project. Abhay has presented him with the Gold Bin and Imran Khan is more than happy to be a patron. "I cherish this opportunity where I can lend a helping hand to my friend in a cause so crucial and being a part of which is so simple," says Imran Khan.

While this project has traditionally been an awareness-raising body on 'Climate Change', our focus has shifted to broadcasting solutions, particularly since the urgency surrounding the climate crisis has significantly increased.

As part of its 'Teachers Training Program', The Climate Project-India proposes to train teachers in every single government and private schools in Delhi about climate change and its impacts before the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Abhay will be with The Climate Project - India every step of the way - right from the flag off to giving a boost to our efforts and the morale of the teachers by exchanging notes on the trials and tribulations on his own 'green journey'!
