Mahesh Bhatt faces a bitter experience from across the border
Ace director's supportive nature backfires
Tweet-- Mahesh Bhatt has been a ‘Messiah’ for many struggling actors, singers and directors. He has often given breaks to talented people & moreover he had gone aheadgiving a platform to the talent across the border in Pakistan. However hislatest attempt of giving another break to an emerging Pakistani singer NaumanJaved went regrettably astray. The story goes that on insistence of MaheshBhatt, Pritam, the music director of Sony Music & Vishesh Films’ film ‘TUMMILE’, had sent a minus one track of the song “O MERI JAAN” to Nauman to testwhether his voice would suit the song. On hearing Nauman’s version it wasdecided that KK would be better suited for the song and finally the song cameto KK’s kitty. Although this message was clearly conveyed to Mr. Bhatt’sprodigy yet everyone was shocked to find a video of him on Youtube and otherwebsites, claiming for it to be his version of the song. Not just that, but thevideo was infact uploaded three weeks before the official music release of thefilm.
Onseeing this Kunal Deshmukh, the director of the film and Pritam were bothfurious and instead of going over his head, they approached their mentor todeal with the problem. Mr. Bhatt immediately got in touch with Nauman andaddressed his grief to him. Nauman, who had already begun to regret hisdecision, tried to assure Mr. Bhatt that the video wasn’t uploaded by him andhe would never disregard him. Mr Bhatt has been called out many times by hispeers in the Industry for giving opportunity to singers from the neighboringnation, and thus taking away chances from his own countrymen. After facing somuch flack, it is truly upsetting to his work going to waste.
Mr.Bhatt is very hurt by all that has happened and said, “It’s quite disheartening to see how these kids don’t realize theprivilege’s they get nowadays. In my time I used to see the long lines outsidethe production office’s and recording studios. I always made a consciousattempt to promote Indo-Pak cultural exchange and this move by Nauman will givemy detractors another opportunity to speak against me. I personally don’tbelieve that he did it with any malice in his heart. I guess it was just alapse in judgment because of his age. It didn’t have anything to do with himbeing from Pakistan. Though he did putan apology on all possible Social Networking Websites, however I feel that atthis stage it is too late and too little. I feel that Pritam is badly hurt atthis gesture of Nauman and I just want world to know that TUM MILE is totally afresh album by Pritam and all his orginal creation. No one from any part of theWorld has any right on the creativity of the music of TUM MILE, except Pritam”.
Statementslike these shows once again that inspite of all the brick-brats he receives, MrBhatt still believes in giving an honest chance to anybody with talent. Thereplace of origin not being an issue for him. The cause of all the confusion or this incident as per Nauman washis so-called “friend” posting a video of him singing the song ‘Oh Meri Jaan’in a studio, a song which is in renowned singer KK’s voice on the album. Howeverthis incidence does once again questions the trust level that once can assurein the field of creativity and Bollywood. Nauman Javed is the same boy fromPakistan who sung ‘Mein Chala’ Song in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Jashnn.
Producedby Sony Music and Vishesh Films, TUM MILE is slated to scorch the screens on 13thNovember’09.Starring Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan, the movie is directed by KunalDeshmukh and is love story with the Mumbai Floods mayhem that destroyed thecity on 26thJuly, 05, as a backdrop. In the film, Emraan playsa struggling painter whereas Soha is the Editor of a Hi-Fashion magazine. Afterparting ways with a bitter break-up, the two cross paths during thecatastrophic floods in Mumbai and it is then when they realize there truefeelings for each other. Much has been said about the films’ canvas and KD’sattention to detail when it comes to recreating the original floods on thesets. The film has already set quite a few trends and broken many barriersthanks to its larger then life screenplay and cinematography.
