Versatile dancing TV star Amita Chandekar has emerged as the top individual scorer in the second week of Sahara One's reality based dance show, 'Saas Vs. Bahu' where the 'reel mother-in-law versus daughter-in-law' war is taken to a new level. Pronounced as the 'Sachin Tendulkar' of her team, Amita outscored the Bahus in her team such as Shilpa Sakhlani and Chhavi Mittal as well as the contesting Saas' such as Jayat Bhatia, Priya Arya and Komolika Guha.

Amita's most appreciated solo performance was the 'Dekh Le' song from 'Munnabhai MBBS' film, where even the judges such as Aruna Irani and Longinus Fernandes appreciated her performance. Her quintessential modern girl look was styled by Rohit Verma. She imbibed and internalized the good tips given by the choreography team and did exactly as she was asked to do and went beyond it too. Incidentally, she didn't have the option of choosing her own song and was given an impromptu song to which performed with guts, gumption and gusto.

Amita Chandekar, who has developed a distinct liking for dance-based reality shows, says, "Donning the mantle of being the top individual scorer, the 'Sachin Tendulkar' of my team in Sahara One's 'Saas Bahu' reiterates my belief that I am a good performer in dance reality shows. The judges appreciated my performances in songs such as 'Dekh Le', 'Lekar Pehla Pehla Pyaar', 'Jimmy Jimmy' and 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'. Even in 'Nach Baliye', I was part of a jodi that was among the top four finalists. In 'Saas Bahu', the emphasis is on individual performances and I am glad that I have emerged on top. I am hoping that even if my team loses, by virtue of being an individual top-scorer, I get a wild card to re-enter the fray as per the show format's rules."

"'In Saas Vs Bahu', the emphasis and focus is on me as an individual performer and I'm glad I have contributed.my best to make my team emerge victorious. I am also happy that there is no audience SMS voting in 'Saas Bahu', as sometimes, the public tends to vote more for the character than the performance. I have evolved and become much better since 'Nach Baliye 3'. During Nach Baliye 3, the focus shifted away from my performance to other things whereas the fact remains that we entered the semi-finals thanks to my immaculate presentation," Amita adds.

Two teams each of 15 popular TV's mother-in-law and 15 popular TV's daughter-in-law will compete with each other for the scheduled 55 episodes spread over 11 weeks. The new show, which went on air from August 25, 2008, is being aired Monday-Friday in the prime time band of 8 pm. Produced by Swastik Pictures, the show has roped in 100-plus celebrities with 500 performances across all the episodes. Aruna Irani and Longinus Fernandes have been roped in as the judges for the show.

Amita Chandekar: Show stopper, Scene stealer

A sexy, seductive and manipulative character on the small screen but an attractive, sensual and down-to-earth personality in real life! Tall, beautiful, talented and a bewitching effervescent smile with magic that spreads over a mile! The coquettish brunette Amita Chandekar is a very gorgeous and extremely talented actress. Endowed with an enviable height, the former model is indeed one of the most glamorous faces of the telly world in recent times. The media-shy Taurean actress lets her work speak for itself rather than being a publicity hungry media-creation!

Before making her foray into the television industry by sheer chance, Amita was into modeling and was quite a renowned name in the fashion circuit. Since her college days, she used to take part in a lot of inter-collegiate fashion and theatre shows. She was also fortunate enough to bag the `Best Model` title. One of the judges in one such inter-collegiate show was a Balaji Telefilms' director ('Kutumb'), who asked her to audition and the rest, they say, was history.

Devoid of expectations, Amita auditioned for the popular soap `Kamal` on the sets of `Kutumb` and bagged two roles at once. Amita was also seen in another hugely hit Balaji family saga `Kasamh Se`. In that soap she was essaying the character of Jay Walia`s (played by Ram Kapoor) girl friend. At the same time she was also playing the investigative cop Ashwini in `CID Special Bureau`, which was being broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television.

Character Sketch

About the most memorable character in the short span of her acting career she claims that she has received much acclaim for the role of Malini in the hugely popular Zee show `Piya Ka Ghar`. Other soaps in which her character sketches made a significant contribution are `Qayamat` on DD, `Kamal` on Zee Television, `Kahin Toh Milenge` on Sahara One and `Kya Hadsa Kya Haqeeqat` on Sony Entertainment Television.
