mjunction to facilitate discussion between industry leaders and policy makers to overcome challenges of the ferro alloys industry
mjunction services limited (promoted by TATA Steel & SAIL), the country's largest eCommerce company, is holding 'Indian Ferro Alloys Conference 2010' - supported by the Ministry of Steel and The Indian Ferro Alloy Producers' Association (IFAPA) on June 18, 2010 at the Mayfair Convention, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa. The conference assures to be the perfect platform to meet and listen to the elite industry stalwarts and policy makers like Sanjay Mangal, Director, Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India, B C Pattanaik, Director of Mines, Ministry of Steel & Mines, Govt of Orissa, Anil Dhawan, ED (MM), SAIL, A S Mathur, Executive Director I/c, RDCIS-SAIL, Dinesh Shastri, GM (Global Minerals), TATA Steel & Chairman, IFAPA, Dinesh Kaspale, National Sales Head, International Logistics Solutions, DIESL, Satyavrat Singh, VP, Visa Steel/Visa Comtrade, and many other dignitaries representing the concerned industries. The conference becomes significant when the ferro alloys industry is suffering from gross under-utilisation of capacity, and may continue to do so in the short to medium term. The Indian ferro alloys industry has a production capacity of 3.64 million tons which is sufficient to produce more than 150 million tons of steel. However, the current finished steel production is only 59.02 million tons, though there are plans to scale the steel capacity to 124.06 million tons by 2011-12 and to about 293 million tons by 2020.

Key issues conference will address:
- Mining of minerals in Orissa: Current Scenario
- Power Scenario Impacting Ferro Alloys Industry
- Bulk Ferro Alloys import and export scenario
- Present Demand Picture & Future Outlook of bulk ferro alloys
- Demand Aggregation and Buying: Benefits and challenges
- Standardization of Ferro Alloy use in Steel Plants
- Inspection Procedure while receipt in Steel Plants
- Technological developments in Ferro Alloys Industry for Cost Competitiveness
- End to end logistics solutions for the Ferro Alloys Industry: Special focus on import of Ore
Moreover, the ferro alloys industry is faced with multiple challenges to overcome such as availability of ore from domestic and international market, tighter control to source ore from global mining companies, power availability and affordability (production of ferro alloys is highly power intensive and therefore the cost of power is extremely critical in determining the competitiveness of the product) and other cost disadvantages like expected change in tax duty structure. It is these issues which will be discussed by the key industry leaders and relevant government officials at the forum to resolve the predicaments faced by the ferro alloys industry and classify a stratagem that will ensure favourable growth of the ferro alloy industry.
Mr. Viresh Oberoi, Managing Director, mjunction services limited comments, "The steel industry is highly dependent on the ferro alloys industry for the production of quality steel. At a stage, when there are numerous opportunities for the growth of the ferro alloys industry in India, we need to analyse the impediments cordoning the progress of this potential industry and through this podium we hope to arrive at successful inferences that will effectively deal with the imminent issues"
