Dubai, Dubai, August 13, 2017 /India PRwire/ -- The Professor of Special Education and the Dean of Faculty of Education at The British University in Dubai (http://buid.ac.ae/), Dr. Eman Gaad; and Dr. Nadera Alborno, Associate Professor of Education at AUD and BUiD's Alumna, were approached for their valuable contribution to provide input for a chapter about the UAE to the Praeger Handbook of International Special Education, with Dr. James Patton and Dr. Micheal Wehmeyer as editors.

This international handbook on Special Education shows a compendiary, data-driven overview of special education services, in more than 70 countries all over the world using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities' (CRPD) Article on Education, as the analytical base. They used two primary frames: first is the relationship between special and general education in the country, and second is the country's system that is aligned with the Article on Education in the UN Convention on the Rights of Person with Disabilities (CRPD). The handbook will also have two volumes. Each chapter will provide data and information about the country in general, and trailed by different sections on the existing public and private education systems, the requirements of teacher training and development, the impediments in special education and the progress of developing trends in special education. This will be a very critical and valuable reference source for governments, policymakers, researchers, graduate students, and to the special and general education sectors across the globe.

The British University in Dubai commends the efforts and expertise of Dr. Gaad and Dr. Alborno, who have successfully accomplished the meaningful documentation of UAE's initiative, ongoing hard work and further developments in the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This major international publication has the intention to make available for persons with disabilities, the access of equal rights and opportunities to education and empowerment in wide-ranging environments. The international handbook has brought universal awareness about persons with disabilities to various institutions and to the general public.
