Pilani, Rajasthan, December 10, 2016 /India PRwire/ -- Human rights are legal entitlements to people for the simple reason that they are human. These rights have been variously described as fundamental, inalienable, basic and even God-given. They apply equally to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender or social status. Human Rights undoubtedly belong to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values. Recognition of human rights indeed aims at preserving dignity and upholding equality of all people before the law.

On December 10, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - UDHR the foremost statement of the rights and freedoms of all human beings consisting of a preamble and 30 articles, setting out a broad range of fundamental human rights and freedoms to which all men and women, everywhere in the world, are entitled, without any distinction. Hence, every year 10th December is observed as Human Rights Day worldwide. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon message for the year is "Upholding human rights is in the interest of all. Respect for human rights advances well-being for every individual, stability for every society, and harmony for our interconnected world"

Smt Jamuna Mishra Academy - JMA Pilani has established a rich tradition of observing various days of international as well as national importance. The school firmly believes in bringing the feel good factor among students and teachers for lifelong Alma mater alumni connect. Addressing the teachers and students of the school Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan highlighted the significance of the day and shared the following:

"This year, Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone's rights! Many of us are fearful about the way the world is heading. Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe. Extremist movements subject people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred prey on our fears. Humane values are under attack. We must reaffirm our common humanity. Wherever we are, we can make a real difference - in the street, in school, at work, in public transport; in the voting booth, on social media. The time for this is now. 'We the peoples' can take a stand for rights. And together, we can take a stand for more humanity. It starts with each of us. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, transgender, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence."
