The objective behind this unique initiative is to encourage women professionals who have taken a career break due to personal/family reasons to make a comeback to the workplace. Many women with excellent educational backgrounds who are doing exceedingly well professionally, take a career break & find it difficult to return to work. SCIP aims to make this transition back to the workplace a smooth & positive experience, thereby ensuring that Corporates do not lose out on their talent as well as rich & varied experience"

In 2008, The Tata SCIP was launched on Women International Day; it had attracted 2000 resumes, out of which 34 participants were selected. In 2009, SCIP attracted 5000 resumes, out of which 41 participants were selected. The participants are selected basis the availability of the project by the Tata companies and fitment of criteria of the participant for the project.

Tata Group companies who were part of this initiative have had a positive experience as these women, some of whom are gold medalists from premier institutes, bring their diverse experience to the table & make significant contributions. Productivity has not taken a back seat as the flexi work option is customized for every person according to the project requirements & key deliverables.

The effectiveness of this program can be garnered by the fact that a large percentage of these women have successfully completed their projects & assimilated into the productive workforce. Some have been absorbed by Tata Group Companies on a full time or flexitime basis whereas others have made a career in other companies. Some of them have turned entrepreneurs; a few are working for NGOs & also teaching at various Institutes.

The Tata SCIP was launched on International Womens` day in March 2008 & the second program was initiated in July 2009.
