Delhi Technological University is taking several measures to ensure a cordial and safe environment for freshers when they join the University on August 2, 2010
Tweet-- The authorities of Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering, are taking up several measures to prevent any untoward incident of ragging within the University campus and ensure a cordial and safe environment for the first-year students, when they join the new academic session on August 2, 2010.
The University has constituted a University Level Anti-Ragging Committee comprising of senior faculty members of the University to ensure DTU as a "Zero-Tolerance Zone for Ragging". Besides the Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Ragging Squads have also been formed to maintain a constant vigil and conduct surprise checks in public areas as well as hostels located in the campus both during daytime as well as night. Hostels have been assigned attendants to maintain a 24X7 watch and have been equipped with mobile phones to immediately report any incident of ragging to the concerned authorities. DTU has eight boys hostels and three girls hostels, housing around 1400 students on the University campus.
As a unique measure, University has also assigned one faculty member each, to a group of 15 first year students, as a mentor to help them and guide them in the hour of need.
Surveillance cameras have been installed at the main gate and at the entry of the hostels. As a measure of further safeguard, it has been decided that no outsider (including ex-students of the University) will be allowed to enter the University campus after 10 pm.
Furthermore, in order to create a better understanding on the nuisance of ragging and sensitize students about the various measures taken to prevent ragging within campus, the University will be organizing a seminar on Anti-Ragging in the first week of August, 2010. Boards and Banners on the Anti-Ragging policy and contact numbers of the members of Anti-Ragging Committee have been widely displayed in the University campus. The University is all set to welcome the freshers on August 2, 2010.
